Two places in one day! Peace River Botanical Gardens is a beautiful Botanical garden featuring exotic plant species as well as a big highlight on conservation and native species. The butterfly garden featured the most Zebra Longwings I've ever seen. Even spotted a Yellow Crowned Night Heron lurking in the mangroves. Constantly being reminded how much I love Florida's Gulf Coast region.

Tippecanoe Environmental Park was a wetland for sure in some places and certainly left me begging for dry shoes, but I did see some Florida Scrub Jays, Loggerhead Shrikes, and a huge Bald Eagle. Bonus Scarlet Skimmer and a Brown Thrasher preening.

This Juvenile Florida Scrub Jay wants YOU to support Jaywatch!

Jay Watch is a citizen science program led by Audubon Florida that is dedicated to training and supporting volunteers in conducting scientific surveys that measure the total number of Florida Scrub-Jays and evaluate annual nesting success at more than 45 sites in 19 counties. This program, including its Annual Report, is critical in evaluating the health of Scrub-Jay communities, identifying best management practices for preserving scrub lands, and publicizing the importance of protecting this spectacular bird.
