Let's go Sal!!
Race of the Rockies GTU Champion to Contest MotoAmerica
It’s been a tumultuous last few years for the MRA’s Salvatore Rizzo. After an unfortunate incident that prematurely ended his 2022 campaign, Sal came at 2023 like a man who had something to prove – and prove it he did.
Rizzo carved through the competition in the MRA’s 2023 season, resulting in a dominant 49 point margin from his nearest rival, laying his claim to the title of MRA Race of the Rockies GTU class champion.
Entering 2024 on a new Suzuki GSXR, sponsored by Mixed Up Cocktail and 64 Degree Racing, Rizzo is looking to build on the momentum from last season by contending his first ever MotoAmerica round at Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas this weekend.
“Qualifying for a MotoAmerica race has been a bucket list experience for my racing career.” said Rizzo. “Building off the success of last season and me not getting any younger, this seemed like the perfect time! I'm super excited and I have a really great group of people here and behind me this weekend. It's going to be a challenge to be up against the best of the best, I'll definitely have to bring my A game to make the grid, but at the end of the day it's an adventure I'll never forget no matter what.”
Rizzo arrived in Austin yesterday afternoon ahead of load in this morning, and was “feeling nervous, but pumped to see how I can stack up.”
MRA President Bob Hasenhundl said of Rizzo, “We are excited to have our 2023 Race of the Rockies GTU champion making the step up to MotoAmerica this weekend, and we will be following his progress with great interest.”
