The Eagle Nebula (M16) is an active star formation region about 5700 light years away and streching almost 9.5 light years. The pillars of creation that resides at the center is the iconic image that was made widely popular when Hubble Telescope imaged it back in April, 1995

Last one for the year! The inevitable capture of astrophotography. This image inspired me about deep sky object photography, and finally, I could capture it from a Bortle 2 sky. Since I mostly focused on narrow-band imaging and after different palette experiments I settled on the HSO with LRBG stars, this needs to be revisited at a later time for HaLRGB. This was the first time using the GHS stretch, I am not sure if I have gone too far to bring out the details
I hope you all like this version.

Horsehead Nebula (B33) and Flame Nebula (NGC 2024 - ironically we are entering 2024) are located in the Orion belt of the Orion constellation. This is one of the most exciting parts of the winter night sky and can be easily identified by the star position.

The dark side got me, Helping Hand nebula - LDN1355. It is a dark nebula located in the constellation of Cassiopeia. As the name suggests these types of objects are not illuminated by the light of their own but enlighten by the nearby stars.

As the deep-sky stuff has taken a backseat with multiple incomplete projects, finally took some time to be in the mountain under our own galaxy on a moonless night. It was cold down in 40s (Fahrenheit) but overall was very happy with the outcome.

NGC6960

The Veil nebula is a well known supernova remnant in the Cygnus loop. The area is mainly reach in Oxygen and was formed due to an exploding star roughly 20 times the size of the Sun. Located in the summer Milky Way the object is estimated to be 2400 light years away. This image is of the Western Veil and consist of 2 well known objects “The Witch’s Broom” and “The Pickering Triangle”

Captured over 4 nights from Bortle-3/4 sky with ~11hrs. of data. Processed with the HOO palette

The Rosette Nebula (NGC 2244 / NGC 2237) in the constellation of Monoceros is a giant region of cosmic dust and cloud that span across almost 100 light years. The name derives from it circular flower like appearance. Even though it is primarily identified as NGC 2244 (the center star cluster), this region is mix of other deep space catalouge objects which includes star clusters and nebulas. This is an emission nebula approx. 5200 light years away from us.

The nebula lies to the north east part of the famous winter constellation Orion (see 3rd picture). It is faint enough, not to be visualized through naked eye but is amazing target for photography with strong signal on both Hydrogen and Oxygen spectrum.

Fun fact: The dark cloud portion of the nebula is known as animal parade or animal crossing (see second picture), I did not know this earlier and came to know from one fellow astronomers post in Facebook

Second Fun fact (Source Wikipedia - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rosette_Nebula): On April 16, 2019 the Oklahoma Legislature passed HB1292 making the Rosette Nebula as the official state astronomical object. Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt signed it into law April 22, 2019.

Image Acquisition:

Captured over 4 nights from Bortle-3/4 sky with ~9hrs. of data. Processed with the SHO palette from "thecoldestnights.com" with mix of HOO

Oiii: 300" x 42
