With a background in filmmaking and cinematography, precision comes naturally to me but never trumps the spontaneous and organic nature that my photos capture. I’ve always loved styles that blend the traditional with conceptual and Japan is full of that kind of fashion inspiration. Using a shoji screen as a backdrop, we mixed and matched Japanese-style outfits with chromatic splashes and natural elements. Very happy with the results. Inspiration can come from any place. My latest portfolio shoot was a twist on a Scorpions record cover shot by Helmut Newton in the 80s. From there, I created setups that are one part glam metal, another part grunge… all shot in delicious B&W.

The final stop on my Candyland themed shoot isn't candy at all… it's popcorn. Being a huge movie buff, no film is complete without a bag of popcorn so why not create a concept around it. Kudos to Deven Collins for the golden HMU and popcorn decorations.

Loved shooting and producing this film noir inspired look in NYC... deep dark blacks with bright highlights shining through. And a little haze always helps. Then converting to black and white, with a few adjustments, for the final export.
