Funny how often the last mile delivers.

We started the day wandering through Zion with fresh snow on the cliffs and ended it near the trailhead watching this buck move through the afternoon light.

After a full day of hiking, I wasn’t expecting to be pulling the camera back out, but sometimes the universe has other plans.

One of the last frames of the day ended up becoming one of my favorites.

Vestrahorn might be the most beautiful place I’ve ever wandered around with a camera.

454-meter peaks rise straight out of Iceland’s southeastern coastline, a black sand beach stretches below, and shallow tidal pools turn the whole landscape into a giant mirror when the conditions are right. It almost feels like another planet.

I remember walking around that morning completely blown away by how much variety was packed into one place. Every few hundred feet felt like a different composition.

One thing I never got during that Iceland trip was the northern lights.

Whenever I make it back, this is one of the first places I’ll return to. If the aurora decides to dance above those peaks, I can’t imagine a much better front row seat.

Until then, this morning has held up pretty well in the memory bank. 🇮🇸📸

My dad and I spent a week checking a few new places off the list.

Grand Canyon. Zion. Silverton.

Somewhere along the way we decided to book a tour through Waterhole Canyon, a much quieter neighbor to the more famous slot canyons around Page.

As luck would have it, we were the only two people on the tour.

For a couple hours it felt like we had the entire canyon to ourselves. Just us, a local guide, and endless walls of sandstone twisting in every direction.

One of those random travel decisions that ended up becoming one of the highlights of the trip.

Funny how some places end up living in your memory for reasons that have nothing to do with the photo.

I remember Delicate Arch being way bigger than I expected, but what stuck with me most was the crowd disappearing as the sun went down.

A stranger drawing the arch in a sketchbook.

Another playing harmonica.

A handful of us watching the light fade across the desert.

This stop was just supposed to be part of the drive to my first Gem & Jam adventure, but somewhere along the way it became one of my favorite travel memories.

Sometimes the detours win.

I wanted to share a small autumn moment I found: golden-orange aspen leaves cluster around pale, smooth trunks, their thin blades lit from behind so you can see veins and tiny blemishes. Vertical trunks and a tangle of thin branches bring a steady structure while light threads through the canopy in narrow ribbons, turning leaves into translucent discs against a cool bluish background. The distant woods soften into a gentle blur while the midground stays crisply detailed, which makes the scene feel both brisk and comforting. The tiny holes and curled edges remind me this is happening in real time. A jagged volcanic ridge rises above a ribbon of lush forest while a tranquil lagoon moves from aquamarine near the shore to deeper teal, all under soft rose-tinted clouds. Sunlit pockets on the slopes and a line of palms give the scene a steady, calm presence. I thought this balance of quiet strength and open space could anchor a living room or study—take a closer look here: https://shop.silkyshots.photography/warehouse-open-edition-prints/art_print_products/silkyshots2023-portfolio-pics-november-26-2017

Bridal Veil shows a luminous column of water spilling down sheer granite, its motion softened into a silk-like veil while dark firs frame the edges and mist eases the top. I wanted the vertical rhythm and the contrast between rock and flow to feel calm but purposeful. In black and white, the scene leans on tonal drama and texture—fissures in the granite, spray at the base, and the way light finds the fall.
