Hey, friends! I am delighted to share that I am producing an incredible one-day lighting intensive|workshop at the end of the month!

This is for anyone seeking to elevate their lighting while connecting more deeply with their creativity and art. We will work with constant, strobe, and natural light to produce a compelling collection of powerful portraits with some truly fantastic models.

Prepare to learn and create a lot, have fun, and spend time with an incredible group of like-minded photographers. It's worth noting that half of the spots are already filled from my newsletter announcement and those on the waiting list.

Some info from the registration page…
"As photographers, we communicate through contrast, the poetic interplay of light and shadow. Stories, scenes, and sets come to life through the power and magic of illumination, as the humanity of our subjects and the essence of our creative vision are carved out of or etched into the darkness...

Join me in Denver on March 28th at my spectacular, world-class studio for an inspiring and immersive adventure into the art and alchemy of lighting design. I will deconstruct my unique process and approach to lighting in a way that prioritizes feel over formula, empowering attendees to create from a place of unconstrained expressiveness."

Client Commissions | East Coast 📸

Hey, all! I am elated to announce that I will be producing a one-day workshop at Lindsay Adler's SPECTACULAR space, Firehouse Studios, in Jersey City, NJ, on December 17th.
The workshop, Creative Lighting with Jonny, is an inspired, immersive lighting intensive where we will explore and create with constant, strobe, and natural light, both individually and in concert.

Lindsay's space is wonderfully well-suited to a workshop like this, with an upper floor that is essentially a historic artist's loft with lovely textures and abundant natural light, and a lower floor that is a high-end, professional production studio with the best available gear. When I say the space is MAGIC, I mean it!

In addition to a couple of the usual flyers, I decided to share a tiny collection of work I created at the space last time I was out that way: from the workshop Lindsay and I produced collectively, the episode of Learn+ where I was her guest, and the work I created during my solo lighting intensive.

Thanks to generous sponsorship from Nanlite and The Adorama Collective, the price to attend is only $399, and half the spots are already taken from my email list. Please message or comment for additional details, as the remaining seats will undoubtedly go fast.

Also, for the first time, I am taking on two portrait commissions|clients on the following day, December 18th, at Lindsay's studio. This is a chance to be photographed by me at one of the most spectacular and iconic studios in the country. I rarely take on clients on the East Coast, so if you want to experience the power and magic of being in front of my camera without traveling to Denver, this is your opportunity! I am also offering these sessions at a discounted rate as I am working to establish a proper client base on the East Coast. If you decide to attend the workshop and commission me the following day for a session, I have a special gift for you! Please get in touch with me directly to set up a time to chat and explore possibilities.

Sending all of you all of my love and gratitude!

Connection & Exploration | The Workshop
Firehouse Studios - Jersey City, NJ | July 13

It’s official: we’re combining creative and professional forces to produce an incredible, inspiring, hands-on workshop with an emphasis on connection and exploration, two guiding principles that shape compelling, visually striking, and emotionally resonant imagery. This workshop is all about genuine community, heartfelt authenticity, and artistic exploration.

Although our styles, aesthetics, and creative voices differ, we’re both grounded in the importance of creating work that feels personally meaningful and artistically free. To that end, we are coming together to embolden attendees to break free from formulaic image-making and reconnect with their artistic vision. This workshop invites photographers to explore not only new tools and techniques but also their own instincts and creative identities.

Through hands-on demonstration and a breakdown of our singular processes and approaches, we will collectively delve into what it means to create from a place of curiosity rather than certainty—and how allowing space for risk, experimentation, and failure can unlock creative breakthroughs.

By the end of this immersive experience, attendees will have acquired practical tools, gained renewed inspiration, and developed a more profound sense of confidence in their ability to explore, connect, and create images that are truly their own.

A big shoutout and thanks to our sponsors, - - and for making it possible for us to produce this workshop while keeping the price point as accessible as possible. We also extend our shared gratitude to our wonderful photographic community!

This collaborative endeavor promises to be an extraordinary experience that you don’t want to miss!

There are only a few spots left. If you’d like to learn more or register to secure your place, follow the link in Jonny’s bio or comment ‘WORKSHOP,’ and we’ll send the information your way via DM.

See you next month!

Recently, commissioned me to create a collection of unique, immersive educational videos deconstructing and exploring my approach, process, and creative philosophy in various settings and scenarios. These portraits are from the segment centered around how I layer light and shadow, and I am delighted to share them with you! If you want to watch the segment and learn how I produced these lovely portraits, follow the 🔗 in my bio or comment LAYERED below!

brought an abundance of energy, poise, personality, elegance, beauty, radiance, and refined power to the segment, and I am immensely grateful that she agreed to be part of the project! Polina is moving to Austin soon, so take note, Texas photographers, if you need an incredible model for commercial, creative, or fine-art projects! I appreciate you, Polina! You will be missed here in Denver!

was an absolute production maven, holding it down from behind the camera and on set as usual. Rachel, thanks for the love and support, for mediating my manic mindset, and for keeping my ADHD-laden brain focused and on track! You’re the bee’s knees!

- thank you so much for the opportunity and for seeing and celebrating me as an artist and educator. This alliance means so darn much to me, and it is truly an honor to combine creative and professional forces to uplift, inspire, and empower our spectacular photographic community! This is just the beginning! On that note, if you go to Imaging USA in Nashville in January, I’ll be there teaching with PPA!

As an educator and industry leader, my greatest aspiration is to bolster and embolden fellow photographers from a place of love and passion while setting a new precedent, a standard rooted in community, diversity, inclusivity, and authenticity. I want more art, connection, expression, celebration, less ego, gatekeeping, drama, BS, vitriol, and doctrine...

I am elated to share more of the incredible art I created during my workshop tour in Mexico that was organized and produced by my dear friend, brilliant colleague, and creative sister, 🫂

As a collective, we created this collection in Guadalajara at a truly amazing studio: We were welcomed not only as fellow artists but also as family. If you ever find yourself in GDL, you must visit this incredible space!

In-frame is the incendiary who brought all the energy, poise, elegance, power, and beauty, and was kind, sweet, and patient throughout the workshop. Muchas gracias, Beth!

The lovely and wonderfully talented graciously provided the backdrops we used on both days. As you know, I am addicted to canvas and don’t know what I would’ve done without the beautiful backdrops Luz shared with us!

Big shoutout to and .mx for the gift of illumination! Thanks to Nanlite and de*vice, we had a stellar collection of world-class lights and modifiers with which to explore, experiment, and create!

makeup) and .jbarbara slayed HMUA and created a romantic, timeless aesthetic that paired perfectly with the wardrobe and painterly vibe we were aspiring to.

There’s not enough love or words for my brother-from-another-mother, for translating, assisting production, and being a beacon of light and a perpetual source of support, encouragement, and magic. Love you, Charly!

This collection is the byproduct of a collective of spectacular, impassioned humans and artists—community at its finest!

Needless to say, I am grateful beyond words, and my friends and family in Guadalajara will forever have a place in my heart.

I am also incredibly excited to share that I will be back in Mexico in August to teach a couple more workshops in Puebla and CDMX and speak/teach at the biggest photography conference in Mexico, Convención Internacional de Fotografía in Aguascalientes!

Dreams do come true! I love y’all!

Tay: An Emotive Narrative... ✨
-> swipe for an immersive journey through motion, emotion, light, shadow, and meaning ->

Connection, expression, creation—a foundational triad for the photographic artist who values humanism and storytelling above all else. This collection powerfully and viscerally manifests all those elements, and I am honored to share these archived moments with you.

Tay and I have been friends for many years. However, the last time we collaborated was nearly half a decade ago. It’s surreal, really. On and off, we chatted about reconnecting and creating, but things never quite aligned until recently, when she came to my studio. We spent a few hours getting lost in the process while finding ourselves as artists and creatives.

We didn’t have much of a plan, just a general direction and vague ideas. However, we were receptive to going with the flow and allowing things to unfold organically. It started with a vintage slip for the wardrobe and an old-school tungsten light bar for illumination. From there, a story began to emerge about exploration, identity, and movement, both tangible and metaphorical.

At some point, we added a mirror and organza, an homage to the masks we wear to hide ourselves from ourselves and the world and the confrontation within that’s necessary to shed those masks so that we might emerge from shadow into light as our authentic selves—the molting of former iterations; liberation toward our becoming.

I found myself wholly enveloped, awash in a state of creative fervor, and it felt wonderful to once again feel at home in the studio and behind the camera. I needed that.

It was a struggle to cull and curate this collection into an aggregate of eighteen slides, plus a couple of extras for the full set and some interesting BTS. Each frame deserves to be seen and felt, but none make much sense or maintain their power and depth out of context, removed from the collection. It’s truly a story from start to finish...

- thanks for being you, being vulnerable, and creating this entrancing visual narrative with me. Until the next time...

Juliette | Je Ne Sais Quoi 📸
-> swipe for a captivating collection of authentic portraits ->

This set of portraits is replete with a staggering abundance of elegance, poise, personality, and refined power. While the frames are quite minimalistic, they are far from simple and represent a wholehearted focus on the subject, the sublime ✨

We created this collection during the workshop I co-hosted and produced with one of my favorite humans and artists, at his spectacular studio in LA. Collectively, Aaron, the attendees, and yours truly spent two incredible days together deconstructing approach and technique in the context of producing soulful portraits that celebrate essence and individuality.

I will treasure the moments shared, and the memories made always. I am grateful for the opportunity to connect and collab with like-minded artists who live and create from a place and space of love, gratitude, passion, and purpose.

Thank you, Juliette, for spending a splendidly chaotic day with all of us and for sharing your presence, persona, and energy with the collective. It was an honor and joy to photograph you, and I very much look forward to the next time!

The first set, where Juliette is in black, is one of the scenes I created with and lit with - whereas the second set, in the chartreuse dress, is one of the scenes that Aaron created with and lit with - although I fiddled with the set and light a bit as we do. :D

I love the exploration of identity and emotionality and the range of personhood we captured throughout. Juliette is wonderfully emotive, which is highly evident in the way I truly feel when I look at these portraits. Such a joy!

I am so damn grateful.

Aaron and I are flirting with one more workshop later this year, so let us know if you’re interested! Also, I am producing a solo workshop at my amazing studio in Denver on June 7-8, in case you are interested in taking your art, lighting, and self-confidence as a creative to the next level...

Love you all! We’re in this together!

Art is life; life is art.
