This was a lucky accident and a real challenge. I was hosting a Meetup at the studio of . There is a small high window and it was that time of the day where we got a narrow shaft of light coming into the studio. So we played around with it. We had a couple of powerful constant lights () to fill in the shadows, but even with both at full power it was difficult to fill in shadows and balance exposure. Dancer .emmalou did a fabulous job of modelling.

This was an interesting experiment for me in using light and color. The first picture was more of a test shot for me where I was setting my light levels for Lur and using a warm gel. (I ended up editing my test shot.) Then I added a second light with a blue gel to light Exodus from camera left. I set up the lights so that the warm light on Lur spilled onto the wall behind Exodus and the blue light on Exodus lit up the wall behind Lur. I often use this "checker board" lighting, but I don't think I've never done it with color before. It turned out kind of cool.

On an unrelated note, what I love about the way Lur moves when we shoot is that she doesn’t just hold a pose. She makes these small, instinctive shifts that change the line of her body. Even when the camera freezes the moment, there’s still a sense of motion. It's a skill, but she does it very naturally in a way that feels visually yummy.
