Focus Camera Club - Denver, CO

Join us for our presentations, mentoring, and monthly photo competitions. Our members range from beginners to published authors and working pros.

The purpose of Focus Camera Club is to inspire and support photographers of all levels by fostering a collaborative community where creativity thrives and skills are honed. For more than 35 years Focus Camera Club has helped photographers in the Denver metro area hone their craft. Our monthly Programs bring local and nationally known photographers to share their knowledge and expertise. And our monthly photo Competitions challenge you to use those new skills to portray a wide variety of subjects throughout the year. But we all share one thing. A passion for photography and creating memorable images.

You may have seen this news or the clickbait articles saying "Adobe apps are now free" - they're not. Someone cloned them using AI to code the software. But don't expect a perfect duplicate of any Adobe app from these efforts.

Also, open source apps that do a similar job to PS and other Adobe apps have been around for years. Same with the MS Office suite - Openoffice and Libreoffice are well respected, constantly improved and updated versions of the Microsoft suite.

I would not suggest anyone look at these Artcraft programs as viable replacements for Adobe or Microsoft apps. There are too many good replacements already on the market that have been in use and development for years.

AI vibecoded apps are challenging big legacy software.

More and more photo competitions are adding rules about AI image generation and editing, as the tools get more prevalent in our editing software.

Club members can expect some modifications and additions to our own competition rules for 2027 in regards to AI image editing tools. We'll let you know when we have it all nailed down.

US cops may be as clueless as UK cops are too. Public Photography is not a crime, except in very narrow circumstances. We covered this in our October 2024 newsletter, which you can find on our website.

Know your rights and be willing to stand up for them.It's one of the five provisions in the First Amendment.

When talking about composition we always discuss the importance of having a main subject. Here Ian talks about how he uses supporting subjects in his images to help emphasize or lead the viewer to the main subject.

Thomas talks about "cheating" in your images. From the 80's when people baited birds or rented animals to interact to generative AI now.
He makes a great point too. - If you're going to use AI and enter an international competition, you don't just have to fool the judges, you have to fool the entire internet.
