But how big is the art?

Before I painted my first bigger sizes, it was tough to wrap my head around how BIG something like 36x48 inches really was (or 91x122 cm for my European friends).

I collected my first original painting at 24”x36”, and it’s a lovely size.

Scale mock ups from .app have been so helpful to visualize bigger canvases, but swipe to the last 2 pics to see Alchemy in my non-aesthetic, real life home.

One of the perks of creating a big collection: getting to live with some pieces in my home!

Adding introspective quotes to my feed because *i* love them. Just imagine me posting angsty song lyrics to MySpace and you’ll know me. 🖤

Which one resonates for you today? (It’s the chaos one for me, for sure.)

I hate all of this -

but sometimes it’s an important step to try out a combo or technique and see what resonates BEFORE you throw it in your WIP.

So here I am, posing with my failures - oops, I mean my test canvas. 😉 The black didn’t behave. The gray wasn’t gray. All in all, I didn’t love what happened in this test; but it gave me info.

here’s my 1/100!

💥 Red surprised me.

For my EDISMD collection, I let my inner-10-year-old lead, and created a collection where every canvas explored a color. We ended up with a ROYGBIV dream collection, and I LOVED seeing them all hung together.

I also got to be surprised throughout the creation process - and red was the standout. Up until this piece, I hadn’t fully jumped into using such a vibrant hue. Red feels bold, and loud, and almost too much. It was fascinating to see the process as it unfolded.

Working in layers allows me to move from lighter touches into deeper and richer tones. I still remember the shock of pouring carmine onto the canvas - it felt so intensely like blood. Part of me wanted to pull back - was it too much? But the guidelines were there - we were exploring red, and that was that - it could be as much as it wanted, and I was going to keep going.

I found my way to the final paint layers, and the Golden heavy body permanent maroon was just - perfection. So deep it was almost black - the marks helped me settle on the title of the piece: Alchemy. The colors and weights and clots and transparencies of the red did evoke blood - but for me, it wasn’t the one-sided view of injury or death… but also the ocean-scented splash of amniotic fluid. The transformation and balanced edge between birth and creation and death.
"Alchemy" envelops the viewer in a fervent panorama of reds, ranging from deep crimson to vibrant scarlet, invoking the mystical transformation of elements. The layers of color sweep across the canvas with a dynamic energy that symbolizes the powerful changes and reactions inherent in the alchemical process. This piece serves as a visceral embodiment of passion and transformation, resonating with the intensity of emotions that stir beneath the surface.
