Samantha Hines Documentary Family Photography Documentary family photographer - capturing honest moments that tell your family’s unique story There's no posing, no props, and no directing.

Documentary photo sessions are unlike any photo shoot you've had before. I simply follow your family through their daily life, capturing photos that tell your family's true story. The way she sticks her tongue out when she’s concentrating. The way he’s already covered in marker again 5 minutes after getting out of the bath. Morning cuddles, magic kisses, filthy knees, epic meltdowns – these are th

e things that make your family yours. My photographs capture these beautiful, fleeting moments so you never forget who your family truly was at this moment in time. Serving the Denver metro area and also available for travel sessions (contact me for more information!)

I offer full day {12+ hours}, half day {5 hours}, and mini {3 hours} sessions as well as birth shoots. Products include high quality albums, prints, and framed fine art prints. For more information, please visit my website at samanthahinesphotography.com or contact me at [email protected]. I look forward to meeting you and your family!

Spent a lovely day with some loving friends who helped remind me that I’m not in it alone. ❤️

Barefooting

When I was a kid, my feet were so hardened from playing outside with no shoes on, I could run barefoot across gravel without flinching. My feet were made of steel.

It’s not surprising, then, that Jury prefers to go shoeless on our neighborhood wanderings. It’s a right of passage.

I cannot contain the joy I feel right now!!! I participated in a photo contest called Photo Fantastico (if you're a photographer, no matter *what* level you're at, I highly encourage you to give it a try) in which you are given prompts (in this case, 5 prompts) and you then make photos based on those prompts, ideally with some kind of theme or connective thread.

I'm so happy to have been awarded best in category for my first photo and to have received audience favorite for the whole set! It's the first time I've been awarded something for my photography - I'm sure you can only imagine the tears. I am also crying right now just writing this. Obvs. I'm just so so grateful.

Below are the photos I entered. My project is based on my biracial identity - as someone who is half black but was only raised around her white family. It's hard to express in words how that feels. Thank God for photography.

The prompts were:

1. Half and Half (you can see how I got the ball rolling, haha)
2. Things Forgotten
3. Kaleidoscope
4. The Cure
5. Sweetness and Light

Thank you to Photo Fantastico for the push I needed to finally explore something so personal to me! And thank you to my sister, Caitlin Bellah, for the photos you sent me and for so many illuminating conversations about our shared heritage.

A few weeks ago, my friend asked a question that I couldn’t answer at the time: what are the changes in your life during quarantine that you want to keep once life returns to the way we knew it? I was in a dark place at the time and couldn’t think of even one thing that was making me happy. Because nothing was.

Luckily, thanks to the help of this same special friend, I’ve started to see the light. After all this ends, there’s one happy thing, one spark of joy that there’s no way we’re getting rid of: epic living room forts.

Hey, everyone! If you were looking for ways to help out your favorite small businesses (like mine, haha!) here are a few ideas!

1. If I've photographed you before, I'd LOVE if you left me a review on Google (link below)! Then, feel free to leave reviews for all of the other local businesses you love! And I'll do the same!

2. Buy gift cards! What better Mother's Day gift than a photo session that celebrates her REAL life and all the work she does to keep things afloat?

Thanks, everyone!

When your husband's best friend gets married, it's time to strap on your wedding gear AND your dancing shoes, cause your doing double duty! ⠀
⠀
The hubs and I flew to Houston last December and I had the unique pleasure of being both photographer and wedding guest. Let's be honest: at most weddings I photograph, people end up thinking of me more as a guest than a vendor. I love talking to people and I ALWAYS dance to the music while getting reception shots. It's my unique way of setting guests at ease, which makes for way better candid photos. This photographer ain't no fly on the wall. And this wedding was no exception. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

About a year ago I got the funniest email: a woman had found my website, loved my work, and wanted to hire me to document her family. But as she went to contact me she discovered one tiny problem...I'm in Denver. She, by the way, lives in San Francisco.

She decided to email me anyway to tell me that she'd love to hire me if I'm ever in San Francisco. And as it turned out, I was planning to be in SF just three short months from the writing of her email. It was fate, friends.

So I began my trip to SF with a half day in the life with this fantastic family, photographing her family planting in the garden and running on the beach. The universe wanted us together for sure.
