Unbound 2023

First event in the full-time freelance seat in the books. I don’t have to return to my “real job” anymore. This is it. The dream.

But there are two sides to every coin.

On one side, I am beyond words on how much it means to reflect that one year ago I was right here in Emporia on the other side of the barricades dreaming of a fantasy where my passionate photography career overlapped my passion for cycling. I would never believe you if you told me where I would be one year later — yesterday.

There are no words to describe the joy this line of work brings me. I am in a very privileged position to be doing what I love full time.

On the other side of the coin, I’m battling the little voice inside of doubt. The mirror that wants to tell me I’m an imposter. I’m not doing enough. I’m not at the level I want to be. It’s because I am so passionate that these self inflicted daggers are so sharp.

The coin flips often. Sometimes moment to moment. Day to day. But the one constant remains is the coin lands on the same ground:

I am here.
Things will come.
This is where I belong.

No matter where my head spins, my feet (and pedals) are firm, steadfast on this journey.

“Together we are heavy”

MidSouth simply cannot be wrapped up in one post, one caption, one conversation. It’s beyond words. 💛

If you don’t mind me taking up space on your feed, I will be sharing my work and my words in more posts this week. ⚡️

But my overall reflection is, I am so beyond grateful for the opportunity to be a part of this event. 💛

My first time as an official event media member. I cannot thank and enough. I was star struck to meet y’all at and I am most humbled, honored, and privileged that you welcomed me with open arms. Thank you. 💛

Such an honor to work alongside the beautifully creative minds of .dils and Brett F (if I am missing tags, call me out please) but this TEAM!!! 📸🎥📱🔥

It was so inspiring to bear witness to all the creatives around this event. I would try to tag but I will miss someone for sure. 🫶🏽

Correct me if I am wrong but I believe MidSouth made cycling history by having dedicated live in-race media coverage of the Non-Binary category. It was beyond an honor to be a part of the lead vehicle to do it with ! Congratulations on you’re win, witnessing the effort that got you the result was truly inspiring 💛

It was a pleasure to meet everyone, and so heartwarming to see familiar faces. Thank you to everyone whom I shared a laugh, convo, smile, drink, ride, handshake, hug, or edit sesh with. 🤠

My heart is full. I will be reflecting on this past weekend forever. No words will do a justice. I’m so grateful for everything. 💛

MidSouth, wow…

part of me wants to say “y’all don’t understand how much this meant to me, blah blah blah…”

but if you know me, know of me, or just met me, you probably know how much this meant to me

my heart is full, my words are empty

i am grateful
i am honored
to have been a part of this

but this is so much bigger than me
this is so much bigger than bikes
this is community
this is love

i really can’t say enough just how grateful i am for this entire community and for this opportunity

beyond grateful and indebted to and for bringing me in to help document this incredible event

again i’ll say that i’ve observed this loved-filled community-celebration endurance-festival vicariously on social media for years

but to witness it in person…

everything i dreamed, and more

big 12 indoor t&f championships.

this was a big one for me.

documenting a collegiate track and field championship was extremely high on the ‘joshua photography wish/bucket-list’.

it’s an extreme privilege i got to tag along with k-state track and i’m really grateful for the experience.

endurance sports are so close to my heart and i cherish every moment i get to put these great athletic feats on front of my lens.

shoutout for telling me i “better post” otherwise i’d probably sit on these for another month.

i have a black and white set on deck too, coming soon.
