👀 Have you seen these lemon nudibranchs in the Puget Sound? 🍋

Rhinophores are one of the most distinctive and recognizable features of nudibranchs. Some are simple, smooth rhinophores, while others have more complex, frilly structures. Nudis use their rhinophores to detect food, navigate, and avoid danger.

Next Fun Dive: Saturday, February 18th, 10am-2pm 
Saltwater State Park, Des Moines, WA.

loves diving, and specifically love diving in the Pacific Northwest, but understand that it can be challenging to plan and organize everything for a day of diving. They’re here to help! They hosting a monthly Fun Dive Day, at different dive sites around the Pacific Northwest! They will handle logistics like dive site planning and briefing, emergency equipment, and help with things like proper weighting.

If you don't have a dive buddy, they’ll help to connect you to another diver up for the Fun Dive, or will go out diving with you. There is no charge for joining, all we ask is that you rent any equipment you need from Under Water Works, and that you tip your staff leaders, if you feel their service was deserving of it.

I’m so happy to have finished the program at ! (Actually finished back in like November and now I’ve finished my DSD Leader cert also, but 🤷). I’m really grateful to have had amazing instruction (and friendship) from David Waite and Gretchen Slack.

Under Water Works is an amazing dive shop in the Portland area with really positive people. I’m so excited to now be a bigger part of the team!

I’m so excited that we found a Nanaimo Nudi! 🤗 While we have lots of Yellow-Margin (Hudson’s) Dorids around here, this is the first I’ve seen of this variety. Maroon tips on the gills and rhinophores make the “Rufus-Tipped” Dorid immediately recognizable.

We had a beautiful dive on a rainy weekend with the beach to ourselves. 🏖️ And it’s wonderful to see you all because it’s been a minute!

We had an amazingly sun break 🌞 from the rainy weather for our Fun Dive on Saturday! Thank you to everyone who came out and explored Sunnyside Beach with us.

It’s a great site with tons of nudis! We found Hooded Nudis, aka Lion’s Mane Nudis, (pics 1&2), lots of Diamondback Nudis (pic 3), Opalescent Nudis, and White-lined Dirona Nudis (pics 4&5). Also pictured, a really cool Buffalo Sculpin (pic 6).

We even saw TWO Giant Nudibranch swimming in the water column (unpictured 😫📸).

We hopped in at Flagpole and dropped down to the sandy flat at about 80’ where we found the busiest nudi beach I have ever seen 🏖️. Literally thousands of these little Flabellina Trophina nudis, aka Long-Mouthed Acolid.

Their name makes sense when you see the picture. They have some serious lips!! 👄💋
