My wife and I were on a trip to pick up a few places in California that we had missed. We went down to this lake on the afternoon of our arrival here to see the mountain, but the sky was empty, and the water was choppy. It was OK but nothing special. The next morning, we came for another try and were greeted with this.

I like to catch the golden hour at sunrise. My goal that morning was to photograph the sunrise, without photographing the sunrise. The sparkling ripples caught my eye.

The Wave, Coyote Buttes North Wilderness Area, Arizona

This is at the end of a 3.5-mile hike, with no trail, after you have a limited availability permit. Took me 5 years to get it. It is better to be there late morning to mid-afternoon so the formation is fully illuminated.
