Hearing thee Spike Lee is coming to Masterclass Detroit with Design Core got me so excited… until I realized I’ll be out of town 😩
At just 19 and 20, we had the opportunity to meet Mr. Lee at the opening night of our father’s groundbreaking Brought to Light exhibit at MoMA The Museum of Modern Art in 1997.
As we are now the shepard’s of this inherited collection, we are blessed to have so much of his work included. The museum also borrowed some of our father’s posters of Spike Lee’s films for a meet and greet in NYC, which he autographed all of them, which are still a part of our collection.
And he isn’t just inspiring to us, but the next generation and our sons, one of which attended Morehouse College but was never quite on the right part of campus when Spike would show up - he had the picture of him and his grandpa on his phone ready! The other at just 15 is already crowdfunding his own films and honing his craft.
And so- the influence continues! But if y’all are in the city - it’s an amazing chance to learn from one of the all time greats. If you make it out, tell him we said “What up doe!”
