This was a fun project. My friend Joseph recently invited me out to his set to shoot some behind the scenes (or "BTS," in film industry parlance) for his upcoming release, . It was amazing to see how much patience is required to shoot a scene, as well as how many talented people are required to make a film set run smoothly. I can't wait to see the finished film: It's going to be wild.

I've been a partner at for the last 15 years, shooting large-scale, let's-go-all-out weddings, which is a blast. In recent years, though, trends have shifted, and more and more people are opting for small, intimate weddings, often in their backyards or at restaurants. These special moments demand the same level of detail and expertise, so when I'm asked to shoot one as a solo venture I treat it exactly the same: Put the clients at ease and document their true personalities. No tricks, no forced poses, and no contrivances. Capture the moment, and let the couple shine.

I have photographed many families over the years, but none as often as the Jerry clan. I've been working with them since 2016, and as "no duh" as a statement as this is, it's wild looking back over the years and seeing how the kids have grown. It's a real treat to work with them every fall and hear about what they're currently into. We often return to the same location in Oak Park, and even return to many of the same poses, but the growth in personality always shines through.

I've worked on many campaigns with over the years, from staged product shots in a studio setting, to lifestyle sessions with professional models like you see here. Both scenarios present unique challenges, and I can't really say which I enjoy more. That said, I always enjoy collaborating with other professionals like the women pictured here, as well as the art directors who are behind the scenes.

When shooting for a restaurant or a brand the rule is always the same: The food is the star, not the photographer (that's me). Whether working with chefs or stylists I always listen to the client so I can understand and execute their vision. Sure, I have opinions on how to stage and style, but my ultimate goal is to make your product look like it came straight from your kitchen, not my studio.
