Thomas + Alisha have graced your feeds yet again; thank you, based algorithm! ✨

364 prior, Thomas and Alisha quietly got married at his childhood church with just their parents and siblings (and me, THEE professional third wheel). 364 days later, they finally got to celebrate with all their friends and family. Best believe they brought the heat for this party! 😎 But more to come on that later.

Real talk, I was sad leaving this wedding. I was so excited to see them and their families again, and getting to photograph them all twice was such a gift. I got to look forward to it all year! But it made goodbyes a lot sadder. :/ Lots of love to these two and their rad friends and family!! Thank you for having me!

Little bean Robert in there has no idea he’s being talked about right now to a room full of his parent’s closest friends and family - and therefore, by extension, his friends and family. His parents are standing under their chuppah, wiping away tears, sharing hopes for their future with this lil dude. He had no idea just how loved and adored he was in this moment, how he was a star when he was only a few months along! Since this image was taken, he has just arrived earth-side just a few short months ago. Sometimes I think about kids growing up around these photos of them when they were young (or in this case, pre-young.. is that a thing?) and get staggeringly overwhelmed by the implication and weight of it all. ​​​​​​​​

Sure, photos are just photos. But if photos are stories and stories are survival, what does that say about their importance and place in our lives? Photos are time travel devices, capable of remembering who we were before even we do. Photos have the power to relay messages outside if life and death and beyond the scope of our existence as we know it. It sounds dramatic, but it’s just a historical fact. Legacy is more than just pretty photos: it means leaving behind an imprint of who we were, so that someday, people who never knew us will feel like they do. Someday, photos might just be all we have. ​​​​​​​​

Most folks don’t know I got my start in music photography. I don’t know who tf I thought I was, 17/18 years old, shooting film in dark venues with a 40-year-old camera and an even older flash that I had jerry-rigged onto a camera body it didn’t belong to, but I do know that I was over-the-moon when Thursday used this image as their profile picture at one time. Maybe this is why I love receptions so much? 🤷🏻‍♀️
