The Helen Woodward Animal Center and SoCal Surf Dogs (http://www.socalsurfdogs.com/) partnered up to host dog surfing lessons (three days) followed by a dog surfing competition at the Del Mar dog beach each year.

They had been doing this for many years, but took a break for a little bit after Covid and finally came back last year. I had no idea until this year. I'm always on a lookout for local dog surfing competitions. There used to be one in Huntington Beach, but they never came back from Covid.

I didn't attend their first day of lessons, but I attended their second day to photograph the dog surfurs paw-ticipating. I'm not sure if I will attend their third day of lessons, but I plan to attend their competition on 07 September.

Normally a 100 Stranger photo project involves getting a photo of strangers (humans), I decided to do a pet version of this. I did do a 100 Stranger photo project before where I approached strangers and asked for their photo, but I think I got to ten and hadn't approached another stranger for awhile. As an introvert, striking up a conversation with just anyone is way out of my comfort zone. Approaching people with pets and asking for their pets' photos is easier. For me to be a successful photographer of any genre (I'd like to be a full time real estate photographer and part time pet photographer), I have to get out of my comfort zone.

Over the weekend, I attended a pet event in Chino Hills at Vila Borba Park to help with photos and videos for Priceless Pet Rescue who had a pet adoption booth and had a few adoptable pets immediately ready for a furr-ever home. I originally had planned to take photos only, but they asked to help with videos as well. I feel okay taking videos for myself, but have never taken videos for other people and I need to be comfortable with this, so I agreed. This was a pawsome event to promote this non-profit organization and get more exposure for animals looking for new homes.

It has been awhile since I posted anything. I used to work at a dog daycare, but stopped when I got a new job that paid more and gave more hours. I also used to volunteer at Priceless Pet Rescue in Chino Hills, but stopped when I got a new job (after the dog daycare job). Priceless Pets Rescue recently opened a new adoption in the City of Industry which is a little bit closer to me than Chino Hills. I recently went to their volunteer orientation so I can help take care of the pets waiting for new homes there. They had a Grand Opening so if you are in the area, near the center (or any of their other adoption centers), you can stop by and take a look at who is available for adoption.

My lens collection is finally complete after 10+ years! From left to right:

*35mm prime lens
*50mm prime lens
*12-24mm wide angle lens
*100mm macro lens
*18-200mm "all around lens (I don't know the correct/proper name for this lens)
*75-300mm zoom lens
*170-500mm telescope/super zoom lens

The super zoom lens and the wide angle lens were the most recent purchases. Landscape photography had some influence, but real estate photography was the major deciding factor for the wide angle lens. Wildlife photography was the main/only reason for the super zoom lens.

I had also been wanting to upgrade my camera from the Sony DSLR Alpha 300 (entry/beginner level) to the Sony DSLR Alpha 900 (pro level) for awhile and I've finally upgraded my camera. Real estate/travel/food photography had some influence for the camera upgrade, but my alpha 300 was starting to act up where it wouldn't let me shoot in full manual mode (sometimes it did). I still plan to keep my alpha 300 for events where I would prefer to shoot in Aperture Priority.
