Need to update your headshots but don’t feel like you have the time? My mini-sessions are only 20 minutes long and you’ll get more variety than you think, especially if you plan right. Here are some of my tips to maximize a shorter session:

🌟 Pick the right location. Make sure you’ve got a mix of elements, like buildings, trees, etc. to use for backdrops.

🌟 Be strategic about your looks. Change up your clothing with simple bottoms and different tops that you can easily throw a sweater or blazer over. Keep accessories simple and makeup natural.

🌟 Be clear on how you’ll use your images. This will help you and your photographer get those must have shots quickly.

I am so humbled that Alison trusted me to take her professional branding pictures. We had a blast and I just can’t stop looking at these images!

Hi, I’m Yaz! Admittedly I haven’t been showing up here as much as I’d like but I also feel like my mental space is much better without the pressure. Anyhoo, since it’s been a while I thought I’d re-introduce myself and share a few fun facts!

💥 We have 2 little humans that keep us busy, busy, busy. They were my inspiration for getting into photography.

💥 My favorite book series is Harry Potter. How obsessed am I? I've read all 7 books more than once, watched the movies waaaay more than once, and visited the Wizarding World of Harry Potter as a grown woman.

💥 I live for coffee and donuts. And ice cream. Haven’t met one I didn’t like 🤣

💥 I'm a total numbers nerd, and an analytics consultant in my 9-5.

It’s been a hot minute (or more 😳) since I’ve posted here, but we’ve been busy! L started baseball, and it’s become an unexpected opportunity to practice some candid action shots from behind a fence.

Last year I took the gram way too seriously. I would only post at certain times of the day to maximize engagement, strived for perfect images, and did a reel or two (or 30 🤣). And as my primary source of marketing, I felt so reliant on it.

This year I’m focusing on posting what inspires me and bringing my authentic self. Not saying I won’t promote myself, because that’s important too, but I’m taking the stress out of it.

So here’s a picture of one tired daddy, a messy hybrid playroom-home office, and my adorable little humans.

Have you mastered what I call the “fake laugh”? In almost all my sessions I encourage people to just start laughing. I know it’s awkward (especially by yourself) but trust me, these end up being my clients’ favorite photos! It may not feel genuine in the moment but your smile and laugh are some of your most authentic expressions.

Here are some of my tips if you’re looking to try the fake laugh:

😆 Relax! Shake it out if you need to. Fake or not, a laugh won’t come out if you’re tense.

😆 Think of a funny moment or someone that always makes you laugh. Even if you don’t start laughing, your mind is in the right place!

😆 Be expressive and don’t hold back! Now I’m not saying go crazy here, but you’re going for a big expression. It’s always easier to dial it back from there.

As I reflect on my 2021 photography goals, the one I’m most proud of is becoming more comfortable with indoor photography. A bad session last year made me commit to never being that unprepared again. And while I still have a ways to go (hello OCF, you’re next!), I’m so proud of how far I’ve come! On my road to mastering indoor photography, I’ve had to be more mindful of light and overcome my fear of raising ISO. I’ve also learned new ways to save images in post-processing.

This week I’ll be pivoting and thinking of new Yaz Vantage and personal goals for 2022. Usually this time of year is frustrating for me because I tend to focus on what I didn’t accomplish. Instead of that mindset, I’m flipping the narrative and using that as a catalyst for what’s to come. Bring it on 2022!

Happy Monday folks! Yesterday we enjoyed outdoor time breaking in some new toys. That also gave me an opportunity to practice 📸 I’m thinking of my 2022 goals, and while I don’t think I have the capacity to shoot every day I do want to be intentional of practicing more often.
