Teresa Klokkenga Photography Bloomington Illinois Business and Senior Photographer, Shining a Light on the Purpose YOU were created for! Capturing you, being YOU!

I believe the most authentic images come from when we simply relax and just be ourselves. It's my greatest hope for each Family, Bride or Senior to showcase you through the art of photography and create lifelong heirlooms!

Consider this year warning. Spend enough time here and you might just start believing that you’re ready for brand photos before you think you are.

The truth is, you don’t need a perfect plan, a full wardrobe, or a clear list of every shot you need. You just need to show up. The rest is what I’m here for.

If your current photos don’t quite match the business, you’ve built, that’s a good enough reason to start the conversation.

Something I kept noticing after sessions: clients would receive their gallery, download their photos, and then... not really know what to do next.

Not because they didn't love the images. They did.

But 'okay, now what?' is a real question, and most photographers hand you a gallery and consider their job done.

I didn't want to do that anymore.

That's why I added the client portal. It's not just a place to access your images - it walks you through how to actually use them. Caption ideas, marketing prompts, a clear plan so the photos you invested in don't end up sitting in a folder somewhere collecting digital dust.

The session process should include what comes after the session. That felt obvious once I said it out loud, and I'm not sure why it took me as long as it did to just build the thing.

I'll be at the Twin Cities Showcase on May 13th at CEFCU Arena from 10:00 to 1:30, and I want to tell you what that actually looks like before you decide if it's worth showing up (if FREE admission and FREE samples from the Taste of Twin Cities weren't enough!)

I'll have a live booth with a real setup - lighting, backdrop, the whole thing - so you can experience a modern headshot and view it in person before you ever commit to booking a full brand session for yourself.

You can come with questions. You can come with skepticism. You can come just to see what it looks like in practice.

I'll also be showing off the client portal for the first time publicly, which I'm genuinely excited about.

No sales pressure. No commitment required. Just a real, low-stakes way to see the process and decide if it makes sense for your business.

Come find me.

Stock photos were a smart starting point.

When you're building something from scratch, you use what's available. Nobody figures out their whole visual brand on day one, and grabbing a polished image from a stock library to fill a website page is a completely reasonable call when you're just getting things off the ground.

But here's what changes over time.

Your business gets more specific. Your clients get more specific. The people you're trying to reach start making decisions faster - and a lot of those decisions happen before they read a single word on your page.

Generic visuals worked when your business was generic. They work a little less every year that it isn't.

'I'll book when I'm more ready.'

More ready meaning: the website is updated, the services are finalized, the right outfit exists in the closet, and you've had a full eight hours of sleep for at least five consecutive nights.

I hear this all the time. And I get it - it feels responsible to wait until things are more pulled together.

But 'more ready' has a way of staying just a little bit out of reach.

You don't need the perfect version of your business before you can show it. You need photos that reflect where it actually is right now - and where it's headed.

That's something we can work with.

Okay, your turn - what's something I would never guess about you from your profile alone?

Prairie Woodwork already had headshots when we first talked.

Professional ones. Clean background, good light, friendly expression. They looked exactly like what they were - a face to go with a business name.

The problem was that nobody who landed on their site could tell, from a single glance, why a custom piece from this shop was worth something a chain store piece wasn't.

So we built something different.

We followed their craftsman through the actual work. Sanding, staining, the layout and design decisions that go into each piece before a single cut is made. Detail shots of hands doing specific, intentional things.

Those images told a story that the headshots couldn't. They showed the time, the care, the craft. They made immediately clear that what you're commissioning from Prairie Woodwork is something you're going to keep.

A headshot puts a face to a name. Brand photography tells the story a headshot can't.

If your photos aren't working, you probably already know it.

Maybe you hesitate before sending someone to your website.
Maybe you've been meaning to update your headshot for two years.
Maybe you look at your About page and think, 'This doesn't actually look like what I've built.'

That feeling is information.

It doesn't mean you've failed at marketing. It means your visuals haven't caught up to your business yet - and that's a fixable problem.

You don't have to figure out the fix alone. That's what the session process is for.

April, you were full in the best way. 😍

From photographing incredible clients…to time spent behind the scenes planning and creating…to a week at the Reset Conference in Chattanooga surrounded by 200+ photographers.

Grateful for the opportunity to learn, grow, and be poured into (both creatively and in my faith!).

This month was a reminder that continuing to invest in this craft matters… not just for me, but for the clients I get to serve. Looking forward to what’s ahead. 📷✨
