Marriage is romantic until it’s 7:32 on a Tuesday morning and nobody can find the permission slip.
Most of building a family isn’t date nights and anniversary trips. It’s grocery runs, carpools, sick kids, tight budgets, broken appliances, and deciding whether that smell requires immediate action.
So yes, marry someone you love.
But also marry someone who can laugh when the schedule falls apart, stay steady when the money gets tight, and help get everybody fed and out the door without turning every hard day into a crisis.
The right spouse isn’t just your favorite person when life is easy.
They’re the person you’d choose as co-director of a loud, chaotic, underfunded operation where half the staff ignores instructions and somebody is always missing a shoe.
That may not sound romantic.
But twenty years in, teamwork is pretty attractive.
