When you play high school football, nothing compares to the feeling of taking the field with your brothers—except for taking the field with your actual brother! 💛💙

Jay and Cooper Bowen went from lining up against each other in their backyard to lining up side by side on the gridiron for Rye Cove High School every Friday night. While getting to live out their dream of playing together, the two brothers became cornerstones of a program that helped turn the War Eagles around.

From having to cancel a season to competing for a VHSL state championship in just a handful of years, the Eagles' rise showcased the determination of this group. Jay Bowen, a member of the Class of 2024, and Cooper Bowen, a member of the Class of 2026, demonstrated every time they stepped onto the field what it meant to be a War Eagle. 🦅

As the Bowen brothers soared on the field, another Eagle carrying the same last name stood on the sideline wearing a blue and gold headset.

Brad Bowen, a 1996 Rye Cove graduate, watched his sons shed blood, sweat, and tears on the same field where he once wore the blue and gold and even though Brad didn't get to play for his dad he followed in his dad's footsteps when he put on a War Eagle headset and paced the sideline just as his father did in the 70s.

As with everything in life, all good things must come to an end. On December 13, 2025, the Bowen father-and-son tradition walked off the field for the final time after Rye Cove fell just short in the VHSL State Championship game. 🏈

Even though there will be an emptiness at The Cove without hearing the Bowen name over the loudspeaker, the work that the Bowen family has put into the field at the Eagles' Nest will never be forgotten!

Our annual Volleyball Fundraiser is Saturday, July 25th, from 1:00-9:00 p.m. at the Redstone.

Come enjoy a delicious meal, meet your 2026 Rye Cove Lady Eagles, and help us kick off the season strong! This is a great opportunity to connect with the team, snap a few photos, and show these girls what community pride looks like.

We truly couldn’t do what we do without our community support. From filling the stands to funding our season, every bit makes a difference and helps our program grow.

Dine-in or carryout, bring your family, friends, and neighbors. The more the merrier!
