My family and I love chasing the Northern Lights!

The beautiful thing about Sunday night was how absolutely calm the lake was. I’ve never seen Lake Superior so calm at night. The moon cycle allowed for ultra dark skies as we watched blue hour fade into darkness. Lady aurora showed herself but only just a whisper while we were out.

Every night under the stars is a good night!

This was one year ago…and it was incredible! This was the show that changed everything for me. We could *hear* the aurora as we laid on our backs watching it pulse like a heartbeat to a corona that gathered right above our heads.

There’s something so magical about dawn. The electricity of anticipation that creates the pregnant pause before the burst of light from sunrise. Like smelling the cookies before they are fully baked. A longing.

Yet in this space, there is so much beauty. The shadows play on the water differently. The dull light is so gentle on your eyes. You feel like you are in on a secret. I like to arrive about an hour before sunrise to soak up the transition.
