Faces of Durango

Faces of Durango Hi, I'm Cary. I'm documenting life in Durango by photographing people who cross my path as I explore this wonderful community.

My primary focus is on the people who live or work here, but I also include those who play, visit, and shop here.

I was very fortunate to run into Rob last night, just as the sun was starting to go down at the True Western Roundup. He's a hardworking cowboy inside and out. Rob's visiting from Arizona and taking care of some rodeo horses for a family. He loves rodeo time. Thank you so much, Rob, for being part of my 'Faces of Durango' project. (Please check out Rob's photo in color and follow my Portrait Outlaw page. I would greatly appreciate it.)

"Brim and Boot is more than a retail boutique—it’s a tribute to the timeless spirit of the American West, brought to life on Main Ave. in historic Durango, Colorado. Their store blends craftsmanship, heritage, and luxury retail." Yesterday, I noticed that they had a very busy booth setup at the True Western Roundup. The owners, Randy and Amy, are good people. If you need a good pair of quality boots or a nice hat, please stop by their store located at 1019 Main Ave. in historic downtown Durango, or check out their booth at the True Western Roundup weekly summer rodeo in Durango. (Please follow and check out their color photo at my Portrait Outlaw page.)

It was starting to get dark when this cowboy lifted his son up, allowing him to see something special going on inside the True Western Roundup rodeo arena yesterday. Thank you so much for being part of my 'Faces of Durango' project.

I enjoy photographing people commuting on their bikes because it speaks volumes about the community as a whole. Durango is definitely a 'Gold' bike-friendly community, which is an honor that very few communities across the U.S. can claim.

"The City of Durango - Government has renewed our community’s standing as a gold-level bicycle-friendly community through the League of American Bicyclists.

Awarded communities must renew their status every four years to ensure that they not only maintain existing efforts, but also keep up with changing technology, national safety standards, and community-driven best practices.

A gold-level designation recognizes communities with a high commitment to cycling infrastructure and availability." (City of Durango's website)

I stopped by the Durango Farmers Market and visited the Summit Roots Farm booth a couple of weeks ago. I must admit, the display of their produce is eye-catching. They have done a wonderful job showcasing their beautiful fruits and vegetables for all to see and purchase.

According to the Durango Farmers Market website, the "Summit Roots Farm was founded in 2013 and is a small family farm located at 7100 feet, 5 miles Southeast of Dolores, Colorado. Their Farming Practices: "We use bio-intensive methods to build soil and maximize yields. We NEVER use chemicals. We use organic fertilizers, compost, compost teas, and cover crops to feed our soil. We use crop rotation and focus on soil health to keep pests in check. We utilize season extension techniques to maximize our growing season."

I hope you'll visit the Durango Farmers Market and check out the Summit Roots Farm produce booth. There are a lot of farmers at the Durango Farmers Market. Be sure to stop by as many booths as time allows. You won't be disappointed.
