Thank you Cocoa Cinnamon for working so hard to keep everyone safe and cared for during the pandemic.

Hello Everyone! Late today, we had a Lakewood shop team member test positive for covid-19 and closed the CC Lakewood shop promptly.

We’ve had a covid response plan in place and are now enacting it. We have spoken in detail with the health department and are working closely to ensure the Lakewood team and our customers are safe.

We are sharing this to be transparent with our loyal guests who have been supporting us so much since March and always. The health and wellness of our team and our guests are our first priority. Over the past months, we have continually upgraded and rechecked our safety protocols and will continue to do so in general. As a precautionary measure, we are quarantining anyone who could have been exposed, are having the whole Lakewood team tested, and having the shop disinfected and sanitized.

We will be keeping the Lakewood shop closed through the weekend. On Monday the health department will come and work closely with us to inspect our shop and confirm that we have followed through on disinfection and protective measures. Any CC Lakewood team members will remain quarantined and will only be able to return to work once the health department approves and they have a negative result. They will all remain paid during their quarantine.

Sometime after health department approval and only when it is safe to do so, we will potentially be opening CC Lakewood back up with new team members from other shops who had no contact. We will take that part one step at a time.

As part of our covid preparedness plan, we had already created an auxiliary contingency roasting team that we will be putting in place to resume normal roasting operations. That may make a possible two to three day delay in shipping; we will be sure to keep you updated.

Our OWD and OND shops will be open normal hours all weekend and our online store will remain live.

We know our public and folks ask what they can do to help. If you would like to help us get through this safely, please be patient and kind to our team who will be working at our other shops.

If you would like to take action with purchases to help us keep our quarantined and whole team paid, you can tip them, add to their living wages, order ahead for safe no contact pickup from our other shops.

And you can order Little Waves Coffee online for shipping anywhere. If you don't need coffee right now, sign up for a subscription, buy gift cards, take Sunday's online class. Tomorrow's is on latte art.

We greatly appreciate your continued support, love, and patronage as we work through this in a way that keeps our team and public safe.

Thank you so much as always for your love and support.

route was part of a show, Road in Sight, for Duke University. Because the Duke Museum was moving from it's former home on Duke's East Campus and moving to a new location, the Nasher Museum of Art, located between East and West campuses, the show took place all over the university. For route, I took two buses, one for each campus, and covered them with wraps of photographs of what would be there if the bus weren't there. I did four views for each side of bus. If one where to stand in just the right spot and squinted one eye, the bus would momentarily "disappear"... Ta daaaaah!!! I worked with the wonderful photographer Paul Jeremias.

This was a piece for the North Carolina Museum of Art's show, Defying Gravity, celebrating the centennial of the Wright brothers first flight at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina. The piece is an arrangement of hundreds of luminous sculptures in the exact pattern of a commercial runway that extends across the museum grounds, with the museum itself located in the runway. Each sculpture is made of beeswax from North Carolina bee keepers. The shape is based on a pre-Wright propellor design. Each sculpture is lit by a candle located within.

I've been working with Cocoa Cinnamon on the design for the new shop. It's great to see the transition happening. This will be the future home of Cocoa Cinnamon and Linton Architects. Coby Linton, both owner of the building and chief architect is stripping away the additions to reveal a beautiful old brick building beneath. He has inventive and surprising designs for the new building that will retain the original architecture while opening up the boundary between what is inside and outside. Stay tuned. Demolition has just begun.

Linton Architects have finished their renovation. Now we're coming to the finishing details.
