My teenager couldn’t be more unimpressed with cicada fishing. He said, “so you just chuck it out, watch it drift until a fish eats it?” “Where’s the skill in that?” It made me laugh because he’s not wrong.

The variety of rises to cicadas is always interesting, from crashing takes to refusals where they seem to critique every possible flaw 😂. It keeps an angler on their game.

My dad dedicated his professional life into helping the children in the world that nobody else would take. He and his staff were pioneers in social work when it came to outdoor therapy. He saw horrific situations and used the outdoors to give these kids a chance. He also battled the state legislature to get funding for these kids as many officials thought these kids should be “locked up.” I was fortunate enough to volunteer in the rec therapy program at the hospital and I became a believer. It has served me well throughout my life. Thanks Dad for the great example. Happy Memorial Day y’all.

When cicadas hit the cold waters of the Green it only takes seconds before the stop moving. Many trout have figured out that there’s no need to hurry.
