🌻PTSD MYTH 🌻
Many people think Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) only affects soldiers or people who have been to war.
PTSD FACT ✅
PTSD can affect anyone who has experienced or witnessed a traumatic event.

It can develop after:
• Physical or sexual abuse
• Domestic violence
• Serious accidents
• Natural disasters
• Childhood trauma
• Sudden loss of a loved one
• Medical emergencies
• Violence, crime, or community conflict

PTSD is not limited to the battlefield. Trauma can happen anywhere, and its effects can last long after the event is over.

The more we understand PTSD, the better we can support those living with it. 💚💜🌻

Psychology says that anxiety and depression can affect memory more than most people realize.l

When your mind is constantly fighting to survive emotional pain, it has less energy available to fully process and store memories.

People with anxiety are often stuck in the future.

Thinking.
Worrying.
Preparing for the worst.

Their mind is so busy scanning for danger that they miss parts of the present moment.

People with depression often experience something different.

Exhaustion.
Numbness.
Disconnection.

Even simple daily activities can feel overwhelming.

Days blur together.

Weeks disappear.

Months can feel like a fog.

Many people look back on difficult periods of their lives and realize they remember very little.

Not because they did not care.

Not because they were not paying attention.

But because they were trying to survive.

The brain was focused on getting through the day.

Getting out of bed.

Going to work or school.

Answering messages.

Pretending to be okay.

Just making it to tomorrow.

When you are carrying that much emotional weight, your mind is not always able to fully absorb what is happening around you.

Memories become fragmented.

Conversations fade.

Special moments feel distant.

Entire chapters of life can seem missing.

And that can be frustrating.

It can make people question themselves.

It can make them feel broken.

But memory problems during anxiety and depression are more common than many people think.

The mind does not stop working.

It starts prioritizing survival.

So if someone cannot remember much from a difficult time in their life, it does not always mean those moments were unimportant.

Sometimes they were fighting battles nobody could see.

Sometimes they were carrying pain they could not explain.

Sometimes they were simply doing their best to stay here.

And surviving, even when it leaves parts of the story blurry, is still something worth being proud of. 💙

8/14/2026 marks 12 years since I lost my husband Bryce to su***de.

Su***de needs to be talked about to prevent it. We all have mental health, and far too many people and families are impacted by this every day.

Bryce lived with depression, much of it out of sight to many of us. He showed up every day, just like so many of us do, carrying more than others could see. Always had a contagious smile and laugh that brought so much joy to so many. Got down to our daughters level to play, be dressed up, or made up, never told them no. Made ever day an adventure for our family.

I know that right now it may feel like a lot.

Life. Work. Family. The world around us. Expectations. Everything.

It’s a lot.

At any given moment, people around us are carrying more than we realize, doing their best with what’s in front of them.

So this is just a reminder, for anyone who needs it;

It’s okay to not be okay.
It’s okay to take a step back.
It’s okay to take care of yourself.
It’s okay to ask for help.

You don’t have to carry everything alone.
I’m here too.

For me today, that looks like keeping things simple… drawing, writing, getting outside for a walk, bike ride or run, and taking a little time to just be.

What’s one small thing you’re doing to take care of yourself today?

If you’re going through something right now, you’re not alone.

You can get through this.
Things can get better.
Tomorrow is a new day.

And if things ever feel heavier than you can handle on your own, support is there. In the U.S., you can call or text 988 any time.

First, take care of yourself. Reading this and checking in on someone else matters.

And no pressure, but if you feel like doing more today and want to support AFSP Minnesota’s life-saving mission and my Grandma’s 50th anniversary marathon run, here’s my link:

My silence is not complicity.
It is neither uncaring nor unknowing.
My silence comes from a heart which can find
no words large enough
to express the enormity
of this next calamity.

Add together grief and anguish and deep sorrow,
outrage and horror and fury, and
you still don’t get one step
closer to expressing what
needs to be expressed,
but is impossible to express.

These words borrowed from a friend - I am doing my work behind the scenes
….just so… disgusted
