Here are some images from the Three Bear Sled Dog Races in Land O'Lakes, WI this past weekend. The races had been cancelled the past two years due to insufficient snow, so it was good to see these athletes back on the course. Very high quality 10"x10" calendar, this year printed on luster/matte paper for a different finish. We're nearing the end of this year's Milky Way season, when the galactic core is visible at night before disappearing beneath the horizon. The edge of the core will be visible again next February in the upper Midwest, just before dawn. And yes, you are correct...those are some COLD mornings! This was taken earlier in the month on a calm night in the western UP, with some green air glow visible. Best viewed full screen, thanks for sharing.

Eister Falls, a not so well known waterfall on the Keweenaw Peninsula. This view requires hiking upstream in knee boots or hip waders...if you prefer to keep your feet dry, that is. There are a few other drops above this one, but the low water levels this fall made the other features tough to see.

Last night we finally had excellent weather conditions in the western UP for some astrophotography...cool, low humidity, clear, calm, and no Moon. Great timing to make a first attempt at photographing Comet Lemmon. In this image, I also captured a meteor and a passing satellite in close proximity to Lemmon. Comet Lemmon will continue to increase in brightness over the next week or so, likely making it the "best" comet of 2025. Best viewed full screen. EXIF: Nikon D810, Nikkor Micro 105mm, f/2.8, ISO 8000, 6 seconds.
