There’s something about photographing Poppy on black & white film that just feels timeless 🖤
I’ve been becoming more and more obsessed with the idea of owning a Mamiya 7… and thanks to Michael (.street ) for letting me borrow his, that obsession only grew after seeing the results. The tones, the depth, the simplicity — it’s hard to put into words.
Film is slowing me down in the best way. It’s forcing me to think, trust my instincts, and compose each frame with intention instead of just snapping away on my digital cameras. Every click matters. Every moment feels more deliberate.
The only caveat? Shooting film isn’t cheap — and these cameras are truly top-tier. By the time I buy the film, ship it off to a lab, and get the scans back, each photo of Poppy ended up costing around $5. Only ten shots a roll on 120 film. Every frame suddenly carries a little more weight. Is it worth it? Maybe so. Who wants to convince me to buy one?
After 16 years of shooting, this kind of slowdown is so welcomed. It’s reminding me why I fell in love with photography in the first place — observing, waiting, and capturing something meaningful… especially when my sweet Poppy is the subject 🐾📷
