What a fabulous opening of the new CODE GIRL exhibition yesterday from the in Newburgh, NY!!

Eight portraits from my Everyday Blackness project are being shown and I did a book-signing as part of the opening celebrations, along with fellow NJ photo artist and author .donnabassin!

Such a beautiful day meeting many of the artists and visitors!

“Your portraits bring forward a powerful and nuanced representation of lived experience, and we are honored to include your work in the exhibition. Your presence and this extension of your work will offer a meaningful opportunity for engagement within the exhibition.”
- Curators Karen Ghostlaw and Melanie Meggsghostlaw

Thank you Karen and Melanie for such an outstanding job in every aspect of this presentation! What a fantastic endeavor and I simply can’t wait to see all of your upcoming presentations! Congratulations to the Pictorial Foundation team! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

I’m absolutely thrilled to be one of ten finalists in the B&W category of the Lucie Foundation’s upcoming juried show, “On the Block”. The other three categories in the competition are Candid/Community, Portraits, and Still Life/Landscape.

It is a true honor to have my work seen and selected by the three incredible jurors—Paris Chong, Arturo Soto, and Matt Stuart—and to be among 40 outstanding international photographers.

“This exhibit celebrates the unposed, unfiltered, and fleeting moments that define the art of documenting everyday life, whether in dense urban streets or sleepy rural towns, where stories unfold in the open and every corner hides unexpected beauty. From street photography to urban landscape, this juried exhibit showcases images that reveal the quiet truths and vivid stories concealed beneath everyday moments.”

Thank you so much and to the three jurors .chong for this opportunity! 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽

Congrats to all finalists and grand winner ! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

My photo was taken in Casablanca, Morocco in Feb 2024. See all winners and finalists here:

This exhibit showcasing 28 artists explores visibility, authorship, identity, and collective presence through interdisciplinary practices spanning photography, installation, performance, painting and mixed media. CODE GIRL positions GIRL as structure, manifesto, and blueprint. Each artist contributes a distinct voice, forming a collective dialogue where personal and shared narratives exist side by side, shaping new ways of seeing and being seen.

The exhibit is also participating in June 25-29, adding to the abundance of art inspiration found in NY’s Hudson Valley!

Inspired by Ray Metzker

Partly continuing from the previous post, this is a photo of a series of photos taken on takeoff from Montreal on April 15.

The idea for this ‘frame of frames’ came during the April class I did with . I happened to be looking at some of Ray Metzker’s (1913-2014) innovative work especially his composites which combined multiple images into one large patterned photograph, and it reminded me of my consecutive runway shots taken on my phone! When I showed this grid in class, Gerald suggested printing it as a large poster!

The learning and creating journey continues, of all that photography can be.
