On this day in 1968, D&RGW 483 was in Alamosa, Colorado, at twilight for the National Park Service Special. The train consisted of K-36 483, caboose 0540, combine 212, coach 331, and business car “General Palmer. This trip aimed to see if the National Park Service should take over what is now the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad.
