DC/MD/VA friends: Are you looking to update your professional online presence? A clean, modern headshot can help spark interest in your profile and set you apart.

I am finalizing my list of DMV area clients for the upcoming month and still have some availability for mid-November. If you or your company are interested in booking an outdoor, socially-distant headshot session, send a message! I offer group rates for more than three people.

Some of my favorite headshots I've done over the past few years have been in B&W. For me, they add a layer of seriousness and savviness.

As seen in the Katzen Arts Center for its Identity Exhibition:

A Family Man in Three Acts: Thomas Meal
Made in December 2019, exhibited in Spring 2020.

This series begins with Thomas getting ready to ride his bike. Candidly captured, it seems that he is portending something with the wrench pointing at his shadow. It suggests fatalism. He speeds off, lost in and launched by thought.

On top of the bookshelf in the dining room lies a skull he received decades ago. It,
too, taunts.

The realistic-from-afar doll awaits behind the screen door. She stands spying; the scene is strikingly Southern Gothic.

Thomas is a family man whose Sunday was divided into three disparate acts. He is a family man who reads and rides. He is a reader who knows that the plot is essentially
senseless, and that the resolution eventually readies itself to the rider.

Portraits of the Artist: Architect and artist Brian Kelly, AIA, spent the day sketching pieces at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC on November 24, 2019.

Instead of drafting meticulous blueprints as he does by profession, he attempts to capture the ambience of the scene with light brush strokes. And instead of explicitly drawing the subject, he draws or paints around it. So when he’s drawing the front of a building, he’s actually drawing the space and shadows around it. “You almost always fail when you try to draw the thing head on,” Kelly says.

Kelly’s traveling exhibition, Lines of Inquiry, includes watercolor paintings and charcoal sketches from the past three decades. It has travelled from the University of Maryland to the University of Notre Dame to various architectural firms along the East Coast. His intent is never to sell the work, though; he hopes to inspire in the viewer that which made him fall in love with the study of architecture in the first place.
