You know how some scenarios, you go into a stupor and don’t remember anything you’ve said when it’s over? Yeah, that’s kind of what a senior session is like for me. It’s all adrenaline and energy and giggles on my end. Apparently, I yell “Bingo!” a lot.

So, in case you are worried about feeling awkward during your session, just know that I have awkwardness all locked down so it’s doubtful you’ll be more awkward than that.

I’m a big fan of variety in a senior gallery - poses, outfits,expressions. Having 90% of your pictures look the same is NOT the goal.

When people ask how many outfits they ‘can’ have in a session, I tell them there is no limit on my end but to consider that more outfits means more time walking back to the car & changing and less time taking pictures. So it’s a balance, really.

This is my ideal starting wardrobe for a senior session with feminine style but scroll to the last slide to see my suggestions for getting a little more variety without whole outfit changes.

Most people think about posing when they think about senior photos - where do I look and where do my hands go?

But posing isn’t as important as prompting - glance over your shoulder, give me a fake laugh, look over at your mom and tell her how much fun you are having. 🤪🤣

What do prompts accomplish? They take your mind off the pose and allow your face to relax into a more natural expression. The fake laugh isn’t the point - the smile you settle into at the end is.

Last year, my senior bookings were about 70% boys. Most years, it’s about 50/50. What that means is that I have lots of experience getting senior boys at ease in front of the camera. My favorite senior boys compliment is: “That was actually kind of fun”. I’ll take it.

You’d be surprised how many images we can create in a short amount of time - which means less time commitment for you and more bang for your buck.

I hosted my first Headshot Happy Hour last night at The O.G. Coffee and Wine Bar and it won’t be my last. So laidback and fun - adding happy hour to most anything pretty much guarantees that!

Oh, I do love a senior session. When someone who is apprehensive about photos gets a peek at the back of my camera and says, “Woah, that looks pretty good!”, it’s a dopamine hit for me every time.

Sometimes a senior comes to play and create and sometimes, they come with hesitation or just sheer obligation (“My mom wants these - I don’t really care.”) I love them all.

My senior scheduler for Class of 2027 is now open and I can’t wait to see who shows up on my books!

As a college mom of one - soon to be two - I’ve thoroughly enjoyed being a part of this new group that meets in Chanhassen once a month. I mean, when isn’t a community of moms in the same stage not helpful in the parenting journey?!

Alicia and Tina bring so much value to each conversation topic and the social is just easy. If you have a student in college - or are even just getting ready for that stage - come join me in February!
