TW: SCARS AND DARK IMAGERY
“A Love Letter”
By Sydney Kieng-Galvan
These photos are my ode to a relationship that has been through so much hardship and is seeking rekindling. One half has caused harm and shame to the other, so much so that they’ve lost the bond they’ve once had. I wanted each photograph to bring to life the struggles of learning to love the body you inhabit in a weird and beautiful way. This journey is something that was hard for me, because no one around me could see what I was going through. Using digital photography, I was able to bend reality and create compositions that usually occur in my own mind. Things like dreading to look in a mirror, breaking down in the shower, reflecting on my scars and flaws, or relishing in moments where I felt inner beauty were all crucial parts of the non-linear path of loving my own body. Even though these photographs are depictions of my own personal experiences, I hope that through my images, those who also have a broken relationship can try to rekindle theirs as well.
