Small birds flap fast — really fast — and it turns out even a typical 1/3200s exposure isn't always enough to freeze the wingtips of a diving Mountain Bluebird. This one's got a touch of motion blur on the trailing feathers where the physics just won by a hair. Not every frame is a technical win, but I still love this one enough to share: that cobalt blue diving down toward a broken cattail stalk at Bernardo WMA, wings fully swept, going in for a landing. Mountain Bluebirds nest in cavities and are one of the few thrushes with that all-blue coloring in males — the females and juveniles wear a much more muted, grayish version of it. Sometimes the imperfect shot tells the better story anyway.

Today's design reminder: one of the easiest ways to create a cohesive space is by paying attention to tone rather than theme.

A warm wood frame paired with warm wood floors, or artwork with cooler tones in a room that already leans cool, can instantly make a space feel more intentional.

Nothing has to match perfectly. Wood grains don't need to be identical, and neither do the colors throughout your room. Simply deciding whether your space feels predominantly warm or cool is a great place to start.

And don't be afraid to mix in the opposite tone here and there. A little contrast often adds the interest that makes a room feel complete.

Storm haze does something to distance — it stacks the mountains into layers of blue, softens every edge, and turns a single Sandhill Crane into a bright, sharp accent against all that murk. This one banked right through the frame while a couple more drifted along in the background, cottonwoods still hanging onto their late-season leaves down below. Not the golden-hour glow shot — just weather doing its own quiet, moody thing.
