Snowfall in St. Louis — Errands, Street Work, and the View From Above
I was handling errands before my flight. At the time, I was shooting for MetroSTL News, moving through the city as a snowstorm settled over St. Louis. The streets were quieter than usual, the pace slowed, and the work of the city became more visible in the cold.
During that stretch, I ran into my brother, Sean Anthony of Normandie, while documenting the Central West End. As Supervisor of the Clean Team, his day continued as planned—clearing space, maintaining order, helping the neighborhood hold its shape despite the weather. It was also his birthday. When asked if he minded working, he said he didn’t. He liked the job because it helped beautify the Central West End.
The conversation shifted naturally from work to family. After his shift, he planned to head to his mother’s house to help clear her snow as well. I asked if his mother had planned to make him a cake. He laughed it off, saying, "nah, leftovers might be waiting instead. Then he added jokingly yet seriously, "And her leftovers are Good!!!"
The final image in the series pulls away from the street entirely: an aerial view of Missouri carpeted in snow, captured just before heading east. From above, the city becomes pattern and geography, placing those small, human moments into a wider frame—where labor, care, and movement connect ground level to sky.
