I went to Seattle's pinball museum to relive my youth the other day, and to experiment with photographing something so colorful and active. I still haven't mastered it, but I learned a lot about how to try to capture a feeling!

Back from the Northwest Chocolate Festival this last weekend! The picture of the little girl was from a booth selling the chocolate, but on the banner it declared "A Mother-Daughter Love Story." The little girl seems well positioned to step into her mother's entrepeneurial shoes.

On our trip down the coast, our last stop on the way back was Salem, Oregon. As we walked around in the evening I thought some of the old buildings might look interesting as the sun came up the next morning. They weren't necessarily amazing, but they were fun to take. As we were walking back to the hotel, though, my wife Marlene saw an ornate old bank building and suggested I take a picture of it. In some ways I think it may have the best of the shots.

Starting to work on the photographs taken on our foggy trip down down the Oregon coast. Still a lot of tweaking to do on them, but I thought I'd share the early versions. We're going to have to go back, but probably in August or September!

As I wandered around the Union Bay Natural Area this week, the end of summer was drying the marshy areas enough that there were some amazing stumps and bare trees just waiting to be photographed.

The fall migration is well underway, and while there were a lot of ducks, geese, and small birds moving faster than my aging eyes can follow, I did run across several Great Blue Herons who like me seem to sit and meditate a lot.

I was hunting for birds to photograph as well as autumn leaves, and found a flock of about a hundred ducks on the edge of Lake Washington…

As I was wandering through a marsh near the University of Washington, I saw a little break in the reeds and crawled in. Inside was a little pond, and this great blue heron. My favorite shot was the heron poised for the attack.
