Jeff Mcgraw Photography

Jeff Mcgraw Photography Outdoor Photographer, Naturalist and Photographic Educator I'm a professional adventure photographer and photographic educator based in the Pacific Northwest.

Welcome to my Facebook portal. I do some writing as well so some of my image posts have a complimentary narrative in place to bind them into their setting. Creating images in the outdoors and sharing photographic techniques I've picked up while working in the field is my passion. I am usually drawn to wilderness and barren rural settings to create imagery. Pulling from the visual canvas of nature

and the impression it makes on me. I'm a creative photographer employing traditional photographic methods and an array of post- processing techniques to produce my work. My work\educational background is in forest biology, ancient history and software engineering. This feed is in place to provide you with a window into my field work and projects.

Hey there all you wonderful creatures! Thought I'd share a shot from a few seasons back out in the Canadian Rockies. Here is a frosty morning looking across the clear blues of Lake Louise. Such an inspiring area to explore and take in the sights. Icy ridges and cloud breaks make up the background over the snow hemmed shores and stone textured inlets. Just a winter wonderland. On the far right a tad above mid scene you can see a small red canoe about to drift out of the frame. Figured you might enjoy a mountain scene to help you through the rest of the week.

Hey there Friends, I had a great little trek through the wildflowers up in the Tatoosh and the south side of Mount Rainier a couple weeks back. Figured I'd share a few shots from the trip. Couldn't have asked for better conditions. Along the way I met up a family of whistle pigs going about their business in an old rock slide. They were great entertainment...playful, industrious one minute and stretched out and lazy the next. One of the adults had a bit of thing for lupine seed pods. Lol Who am I to judge table manners... it looked like a pretty decent cascade salad. Looking forward to a great Fall hiking season. Enjoy your week!

Greetings from Sahale Glacier camp. I met some mountain goats and took in some epic sights backpacking the North Cascades above Marblemount before the pyramid lake and cub creek fires started and the smoke rolled in. Thought you might enjoy taking a look at some of the shots. It's a fantastic hike that has been part of my annual trail rotation for years. Towering peaks and snow fields surround the upper arm providing amazing views in every direction. Well worth the trip. Clouds move peacefully through the stone ridges below and around you as they navigate over the pass creating a sublime alpine scene.. but conditions can change here rapidly to a blowing wind shear. The stone circles surrounding the campsites are more or less fortifications to fend off the unpredictable resident wind spirits. Lol I've seen unsecured tents blown right off the plateau. But it is an awesome backcountry location just tack down your campsite. The local mountain goat herd moves in and out of on area frequently... the adults and kids are used to campers. If you are respectful to them they are curious and welcoming. Let me know if you want to go out on a photo tour.... My schedule is filling up so ping me soon. It's a beautiful summer out there... enjoy the day!

Update regarding road conditions in response to inquires: 2.5 miles from the trail head the road has washed out. It was passable when I went but it sounds like it is no longer safe. Inquire with the park service to see when the road repairs will occur if you are thinking of going. Todays rainfall may have made conditions even worse.

Aloha Friends, Had a fantastic trip up to Mount Rainier about a week back. Thought I'd send you a shot from one of my campsites. I traversed the backcountry trail along the crest of the Tatoosh...from Denman out to just beyond Foss Peak. Great little hike. Lot's of friendly whistle pigs, swaying wildflowers, ground squirrels and black tailed deer. Just what I was hoping for. The mid summer blooms were out on display. The ridges painted with bear grass plumes, clumps of red and white heather and regal glacier lilies. Wonderful trip. I will drop some more images soon. Spent the evening listening to several ravens bantering along the cliffs until the sky darkened into night.. then watched the milky way rise to the hum of crickets and nightjars. Couldn't have been better. This seasons wildflowers are rising towards peak. Contact me if you or a shutterbug you know and love wants to go up for a photo tour up on the mountain. Have a great weekend!

Abandoned grain elevator surrounded by a sea of clouds out in the Washington Palouse. Old barns, rickety towers and ghostly homesteads sparsely litter this part of our state. Makes it fun explore with a lens. They make great photographic subjects injecting a unique character and feel into country scenes. This image is part of a series of I have been working on over the last year focused on old structures and vehicles left out on the plains of rural America. What else to do during a pandemic right? My theme with this series is classic ruins of Americana from the golden age of agriculture with a surreal twist. The pieces range from dreamlike and idyllic to haunting and foreboding with an accent on atmospheric layers. This structure has always reminded me of some sort of lost monument to the industrial era.. lol so it seems like a good one to kick off the set with. Enjoy and have a great week!

Hey there Folks, Did some backpacking out on the coast a couple weeks back. Caught a fantastic sunset right by our tent site as the day receded that I thought I'd share. What a great trip. Lot's of raptor activity during the day. We had an eagle nest just above out campsite so we listened to them pealing to each other and being harried by the local clan of crows throughout our stay. Eagle calls are so distinct with four to five notes that sound almost like a gull followed by six or seven high but strong rapid notes. I love hearing it. The PNW coastal beaches are such a gift. Have a great week!

Hey there Amigos, Watched a crimson sunset followed by a couple misty dawns out on the sea stacks at Rialto Beach. We had some of the highest & lowest tides of the year (10'+) tethered to the full moon a couple weeks back.. Turned out to be good entertainment. Giant drift logs were lifted and spun about in the surf in the moonlight. We stayed up and enjoyed the show as the waves came nearly up to the tents at the top of the beach. Ended up making friends with the local raccoon bandito...lol , listening to seabirds and watching brown pelicans fly over the surf. Fun times and we got some great material. Hit me up if you are looking for some artwork.
