Last week marked my final wedding before maternity leave. Every pregnancy is different, but having done this once before and not having a history of difficult pregnancies, I felt confident taking it on. That said, I’m definitely not as quick on my feet and I drew the line at anything over six hours. To make sure everything still ran smoothly, I brought in a complimentary second photographer for my couple.
Looking back on the past nine months, there were plenty of highs and lows. Shooting weddings while pregnant is not easy. Even through a few months of rough morning sickness, I somehow never got sick at an event (adrenaline is a powerful thing). I kept up with editing through six back-to-back fall weekends plus two additional months of weekly weddings. With Marcel’s help—especially his much-needed massages for my extra sore body—I made it through and got to be part of some of my favorite weddings yet.
There is probably a whole lot I can say about trying to grow a family in this industry. It can be hard, especially when you have to book events months in advance, and then cover events you didn't expect to cover while pregnant. However, I was also surprised by the love and support my couples gave me during this season, AND I captured some of my favorite photos ever. I'm not here saying everyone should do what I did, but for me it was such a great year despite the extra challenges that come with growing a baby. It's possible to grow your family in this career, no matter how much the industry makes it feel like it can't be done.
Having officially started maternity leave, I'm so excited to welcome our baby in the next 4 weeks and take all the naps I want before he comes ♥️
