Part II of my Meditations on Yellowstone has now just dropped on my blog. This one took me a while to write! Here's the byline:

"Part II: Shapes of the Past. Exploring the John Moulton Homestead in Grand Teton National Park recalls my tentative first steps in leaving the familiar terrain of childhood to enter a new and uncertain world."

I hope you enjoy reading it!

Rescued in Retirement, Cherry Blossom Edition: I've been going back through some pics that I never got around to editing, and lo and behold I had A LOT of images from the Cherry Blossom Festival in Washington, DC, back when I visited in 2019. Here are the first few that I've been working on:

Milky Way at Massai: During the totality phase of the lunar eclipse last week, the Milky Way made an appearance over the Massai Point valley at Chiricahua National Monument in Arizona and fortunately I was ready to capture it. A meteor decided to join in for added measure! A little tech stuff: the sky was shot at 16mm, while the foreground was captured during sunset the night before the eclipse.

Eclipsing Expectations: After years of trying to capture the entire transit of a lunar eclipse, it finally happened! In the past it had been either weather or the timing of the different stages of partiality that had thwarted my earlier efforts, but for the first time I was able to capture the full 5 hour path over the strange yet beautiful landscape of Massai Point at Chiricahua National Monument. Some tech stuff: the moon was shot at 600mm and then scaled to provide detail of the different stages, while the foreground was shot at 37mm during the blue hour just before sunrise the next morning. The sky was shot at 16mm during totality to capture the stars and to aid with general placement of the transit.

NEW BLOG ALERT!

Part I: Finding our Nature in Nature. In Meditations, Marcus Aurelius writes that it should be in our nature to help other humans as it best aligns with furthering our common purpose on this Earth. In Part I on my mini-series about visiting our first National Park, I share a small moment where I hope to be my best version of being a human.

The snowstorm is almost here, so here's a new blog entry to bring you back to a warmer time and a charming event on the Ohio River:

The America River Roots Festival and the words of Mark Twain helped me rediscover a bit of boyhood on the river.

2025 was definitely a year that met the chronological requirement of being 365 days. Only it felt much longer.
