I spent some time in the forest yesterday with some family and friends, hiking along a meandering path that took us through this dark, moody forest. It’s been a while since I’ve completed a long hike, and while my knees paid the price, it was worth it to witness scenes like this one.

I remember closing my eyes shortly after I took this photo. I stood there and just…existed. I cleared my mind of all the trials we face daily, and felt the warmth of the setting sun on my face.

During our time in this world, we’ll face hardships. We’ll fight enemies, both seen and unseen, that want nothing more than to see us throw in the towel.

But we survive. We endure.

And what a journey it will be.

An older one, back when I first got into photography. I always liked this one; it really showcases the beauty of our hometown and what it has to offer.

We’re back! Nice to see you again, Erie.

It took me many years to learn to love Erie. Each time I moved away, I would find myself missing that cool breeze coming in from the lake. I would close my eyes and picture the colors of a Presque Isle sunset. I would remember those late night drives down State Street, and early morning drives around the countryside.

No city is perfect. We’ll always find flaws in our hometown. But I’ve come to realize that Erie really does have a lot to offer…and I’m proud to call it my home.

A lovely tree that I frequently visit, though only occasionally photograph. It sits on the beaches on Presque isle, so I thought incorporating some sand and beach grass into the photo would provide a different perspective. It’s not perfect, and I struggle with woodland/tree photography…but I still enjoyed it.

I found this gnarly bit of driftwood while walking along the beach earlier this week, and with the dense fog hanging over the lake in the background, I thought it would make for a dramatic and moody shot.

Just dreaming of these peaceful, foggy mornings at the lake. Hoping to enjoy more moments like this very soon!

Hello, little friend.

Driftwood, beach grass, anything that captures the beauty of the shores of Lake Erie…I’m always chasing it.

Madeline OConnell and I took a trip back up to Erie this past week, and luckily we were able to spend some time at Presque Isle on our last day there. This photo also happened to be taken on the first day of spring! The next time we visit, this spot will most likely be filled with beach-goers…so it was nice to see it while it was still nothing but nature. Anyway, enjoy!
