Baby turkey!
One of the coolest encounters I have had in the spring woods! As I was headed down a cut road in the woods I ran across an adult hen who instead of reacting to me as usual by flying away, she stood her ground. Shocked by this I started looking around her just in time to notice the group of very small babies she had following her down the road. My first time ever running into wild turkey this small and an awesome first encounter!

The turkey are still fired up and very active. This was an awesome encounter getting to sit watch and these two Jakes spend quite some time putting on a show for a hen decoy.

ā€œ It seems to me the natural world is the greatest source of excitement; the greatest source of visual beauty; the greatest source of intellectual interest. It is the greatest source of so much in life that makes life worth livingā€ - David Attenborough

Every day more color is appearing, the birds sing a little louder, and the turkey are showing off a little more. The woods are starting to feel like spring!

Turkey are often referred to as ugly birds and I’ll agree they look a little on the odd side. However when up close with one especially in the direct sunlight they are extremely colorful and beautiful birds. I had an encounter with a few this morning and after reviewing pictures realized the sun hit them perfectly showing lots more color in there feathers then most of my images capture. It’s a faint comparison to seeing it in person but an example of why I consider them to be beautiful birds.

I take pictures. Partly because I like cameras, but more so because it’s the only means I have of sharing this world with as many people as I can. I can’t bring that type of fresh air to you. I can’t create the type of silence those places provide. I can’t cause the type of awe that’ll over come you while witnessing the sights, sounds, and smells of these places. If I could I’d take the whole world with me for a day to show first hand what these places have to offer, but I can’t. So I take pictures.

Got out after turkey this weekend and was not disappointed. They talked it up in the trees and stuck near the roost just long enough for the sun to start peaking through the trees making for an awesome morning. Here are a few of the photos from that morning.

I wait for these types of moments. Thinking about them daily and dreaming of them nightly. I live for these types of moments.
