"Life and Times in a Bears World" (Under the Protection of Mom)

Today in Life and Times in a Bears world we share with you these sweet images of Mini C and one of her 4 cubs hiding out and seeking protection underneath her mom. Its bear breeding season so moms have to always be on alert for any males traveling through their territories.

Mini C and her cubs were resting on a log yesterday evening when a big male was seen coming up the ridge, Mini gave the signal for her cubs to get up the nearest tree for their safety. Three of her cubs went up a tree but this one cub hid out underneath her mom for safety and her protection. The big male was hot on the trail of an available female and soon went over the ridge out of sight.

After the danger went through and out of sight Mini C calmed down and started grooming her little cub, I will post those images in a few days.

"Life and Times in a Bears World" (Big Boys of Summer)

Today in Life and Times in a Bears world we share with you some images of this huge male bear we call Chester. I ran across him late one evening hot on the trail of a female bear, when you start seeing these big boys of summer it means they are out looking for love and breeding season has begun.

"Life and Times in a Bears World" (Blue Sky's and Blue Eyes.)

Today in Life and Times in a Bears world we share with you some images of this beautiful little blue-eyed cub as it was climbing up and resting 70ft up in its safety tree. I so love the cubs when they are young just out of the den, they still have blue eyes, but they will typically transition to brown between 12 and 16 months of age as the cubs reach yearling stage.

This is one of Mini C's 4 cubs early spring when they came out of their den. The other 3 were higher in the treetop amongst the leaves and Mom was bedded down below at the base of the tree. The new cub hanging on to the side of the tree against the bright blue sky was a beautiful sight.

"Life and Times in a Bears World" (Looking for Love)

Today in Life and Times in a Bears world we share with you some images of this huge male bear we will call Teddy. (after Teddy Bear) I ran across him early Saturday morning, when you start seeing these big guys out it means two things, breeding season has begun and family break with moms and their now 16-month-old cubs has happened or happening.

I hate this time of year when moms have to separate with their yearlings but thats the way it is in a bear's world and has to happen to continue on with life's cycle. I hope and pray that they all learned well from their moms and will stay out of trouble and harm's way during their life journey of being by themselves, independent and live long happy bears lives out in the wild.

In the meantime, this Big Boy was out looking for love and found a female that just had separated from her cubs, she wasn't receptive for his love yet but was teasing by him letting him follow along her trail.

"Life and Times in a Bears World" (Then and Now)

Today in Life and Times in a Bears world we share with you some then and now images of Daisy, can you guess how she got her name?? Hint first image.. I have watched and photographed this bear from time to time since she was a cub, she is now 7 years old and it's her 3rd time having cubs (she has 3 new spring cubs this year)

Daisy, since she was a cub has her own distinct muzzle and eyebrows and has carried that throughout her adulthood. Her cute little female cub Daisy-Mae has the same features as you can see in the images. I hope that I'm able to see and photograph them from time to time this year and years to come and pray that they all may stay safe out of harms way and live long happy bear lives out in the wild.

"Life and Times in a Bears World" (Peek-A-Boo-Bear)

Today in Life and Times in a Bears world we share with you this beautiful mature female bear we call "Little Miss Tripod". It was a very hot 90 degree day, so I decided to hike back to the mountain spring to see if any bears were bedded down in the shade of the forrest next to their water source.

As I approached the spring, I heard the little clitter clatter of cubs climbing a tree, then I saw all 3 going up a huge popular tree. Sitting at the base of it was a bear peaking around the tree at me. She staired me down for a minuet as I remained quiet and still until she figured out that I was no threat to her and her cubs and meant her and her family no harm.

To my surprise and Joy it was "Little Miss Tripod", she survived another fall bear hunting season and winter and emerged with 3 beautiful cubs. For those of you who don't remember Little Miss Tripod gets her name because she now only has 3 good limbs, because she got her right rear foot cut off by a poacher's trap when she was a young cub.

We estimate that she is now 10 years old, even with her handicap she has learned to climb a tree, and she can run but still favors her footless leg and has a limp. She is very timid and hard to get any photographs of because when seen she doesn't stay around long.
Although I didn't get any images of her cubs I was blessed to spend some time watching her and capture these images of her next to her daybed/safety tree.

Today in Life and Times in a Bears world we share with you some new life of spring. What could be more precious than a new spring cub just out of the den exploring her new world. This little female we call Daisy-Mae was sitting peacefully on the fallen log while her mom Daisy was trying to call her other 2 cubs down from the safety tree.

"Life and Times in a Bears World" (Much Needed Rest)

Today in Life and Times in a bears world we share with you these images of a mom we call Mini C and 2 of her 4 cubs. Mini put her cubs up two separate safety trees and then settled down on this fallen popular tree for some much-needed rest, after all taking care of 4 little cubs is a fulltime job.

I hope to get to watch, learn from and photograph this bear family this year and then share the images and videos with y'all so you feel like you are on the journey in the woods and on the mountains with me.

"Life and Times in a Bears World" (Seeing Mrs. Daisy)

Today in Life and Times in a bears world we share with you some special images of a mom we call Daisy and one of her 3 cubs (a little female) we will call Daisy-Mae. I haven't seen this bear since she separated with her yearlings last summer, I'm so glad that she survived bear hunting season and winter and has emerged from her den with 3 beautiful cubs.

Monday evening I found her and her cub sitting and standing on a fallen log; her other 2 cubs were up in a tree 100ft away. Mom was calling them to come on down so they could move on up the ridge. I took a few photos and moved on out of the area so mom could get her cubs to safely come down and be all together as a family again.

I hope to get to watch, learn from and photograph this bear family this year and then share the images and videos with y'all so you feel like you are on the journey in the woods and on the mountains with me.
