MILW 261 makes its way into Appleton, MN, passing by ILSX 1350 sitting in the yard at the local Co-op.

ILSX 1350 is an EMD SD40T-2, built in June 1980 as SP 8284, later becoming UP 4594 (later 8864) following their merger in 1996. After its time on UP, it was sold to ILSX and given to Western Consolidated Co-op in Appleton for work as a yard switcher.

never realized how nice this part of Minnesota was

MILW 261 heads in reverse along the former Milwaukee Road main near Watson, MN, as she takes the Appleton “Wye” Excursion back to Montevideo, MN.

Due to some unforeseen circumstances, the train was not wye’d as was previously advertised, and was instead simply towed back via TCWR 2014.

MILW 261 leads a summer excursion through the valleys of nearby Granite Falls, MN, celebrating America 250. This line is a former Milwaukee Road line now owned and operated by the Twin Cities & Western.

UP 1066 rounds a curve just outside of Estherville, IA as it begins its climb up “half-mile hill”.

And keeping with tradition that I do with this unit specifically for some reason, a little photoshop gives us a glimpse into what this scene could’ve looked like in the late 90’s; for both the train and the city “skyline”.
