June 22nd marked my first year in the U.K. - Nothing prepares you for saying goodbye to a place that raised you. I thought England was home all along, but my home is divided in two, my mind wants to live both lives, and that’s okay. Duality is the human condition. Sometimes you just need breathing room to see what parts of your story that you value the most. And with that, home can become wherever you are. Photo credit

Be vulnerable, they say. Don’t share too much, they say. Don’t give too much, don’t give too little. Don’t be selfish, care for others, care for yourself. Fill your cup, and you can fill others, but others must know how to fill their own, and you cannot fill theirs, only guide them. And if they do not act, then let them be. Regardless of the consequence, the pain, or peace. 📷

Always humbled by the ancient Redwood trees in California & Oregon, near where I grew up. Some of them close to 350 feet tall, and up to 30 feet in diameter.

Oregon facts 🌲 - "Approx. 1,000 B.C., Sand Mountain erupted. Lava flowed out toward the McKenzie River and burned the forest as it moved.

When the lava reached the river and struck the cold water, it stopped. The McKenzie quickly backed up behind the wall of lava, and Clear Lake was formed." - USDA

What do you do when you’re in love with the world and every moment within it? When you’re forced to say goodbye to each experience, (good and bad) the people we share them with, and the lessons we learn as a result. Loss taught me this. We can never know the value of a moment until we’ve been present enough watch it go.

Nerd alert: The Oregon Sand Dunes are the largest expanse of coastal dunes in North America & one of the largest expanses of temperate coastal sand dunes in the world, with some dunes reaching 500 feet (150 m) above sea level. They are the product of millions of years of erosion by wind and rain on the Oregon Coast... + they inspired the book Dune (by Frank Herbert).

I don’t think you can value a place properly until it's oceans away. Memories begin to build out in odd shapes held together by glue that eventually cracks from new experiences, but never flakes off entirely. The value of the memories stay but the accuracy of the longing dissipates.
