One of the joys of working with our non-profit is that I get to tell stories about my talented sister. We produced a Solarplate Printing demo during the pandemic, and just didn't have the time to finish it until this year. The programs will be posted on our website at goldenroadarts.org soon, but until then, you can persuse the stills from the programs at Bookcreator. It is in three logical parts: 1) Creating the image; 2) Exposing the Plates; and 3) Printing the plates. For those of you who think printmaking uses dangerous materials, the Solarplate process is entirely waterbased (although you can use traditional oil based inks in the process). Clean up is with soap, water and baby oil.
These are still images from a three-part video by educator, artist & printmaker Barbara Mason of Golden Road Arts. Her purpose is to explain solar plate printmaking for those wanting more info.
