Iā€™ve been spending a lot of my summer photographing engagements & proposals at Newfields & I honestly cannot get enough of the place. Iā€™ve been a plant girly my entire adulthood but the gardens are making me dream on a whole ā€˜nother level. So much so, I ordered the worldā€™s first groundbreaker hydrangea & am among the first in the US to have it in my garden. Iā€™m kinda sorta super stoked about it even though I am in way over my head šŸ˜‚ Iā€™ll update yā€™all when I put it in the ground!! There is some serious magic among the flowers āœØ

~ Not my usual post ~
A few days after Shelby & Adamā€™s wedding, Adamā€™s dad was told he only had 2 weeks left to live. This devastating news didnā€™t come as a total shock to the family but it was unfair nonetheless. At the wedding, everyone was painfully aware that this would likely be the last time all of the precious family and friends would be in a room together. Mike got to have a dance with his daughter (last slide) because they knew she likely wouldnā€™t have the chance to do so at her own wedding one day. Everyone was weeping (including me behind the camera lol). Itā€™s never been lost on me how important photography really is. Iā€™ve said it a million times but Iā€™d walk into a burning building to save photos of my loved ones. When I was told the news, I knew without a doubt I would do whatever it took to make sure I could get their gallery back faster than I ever have before. Iā€™ve dealt with my fair share of grief and loss & I wouldā€™ve given anything to reminisce on memories one last time with my loved ones before they passed. I feel so grateful I got to be a small part of that for this family. Shoutout to my husband who brought a constant stream of food & water to my desk & let me keep working well into the night for the 4 days it took me to complete this gallery from start to finish (thatā€™s a record for me for sure lol). Ultimately Iā€™m so thankful Adam & Shelby trusted me to document their day filled with so much joy & laughter & celebration & both happy and sad tears. It truly is an honor.
Rest easy, Mike. Youā€™ve built quite a legacy here. šŸ’•

Thereā€™s a debate happening in the photography forums right now about if editorial photography belongs in the wedding world and all I have to say is- youā€™ll have to rip it out of my cold dead hands. Itā€™s never been an either/or when it comes to editorial & documentary. Of course, by definition, they are opposites. BUT thereā€™s certainly room for both on a wedding day! In fact, Iā€™d argue that mastering both can be a wedding photographerā€™s biggest strength šŸ¦¢
