Demolition is underway on a 2.12 Acre site at 820 N. Broadway in north Everett, Washington. The site has been vacant for a long time with a single-story commercial building that housed both retail and commercial spaces at various points including a church, laundry, and video store along with, eight single-story, self storage buildings, and parking areas. Those are now coming down and plans on file with the City of Everett appear to propose development of an approximately 152,300 square foot, 4-story, fully enclosed self-storage facility with an integral leasing office and roughly 3,300 square feet of ground floor commercial space (total building area of roughly 155,600 square feet) along with associated site improvements, utility infrastructure, parking, and landscaping. No word yet on when construction of the storage facility will begin.

Resolute Cross - Honoring Extraordinary Courage

Everett Fire Chief DeMarco and Assistant Chief Albright recognized Captain John Buban with the Resolute Cross for Valorous and Distinguished Service, a distinguished honor recognizing extraordinary bravery and actions beyond the call of duty.

During the late hours of a winter night in January 2026, Everett Fire crews responded to a serious motor vehicle collision involving multiple victims, including one trapped inside a burning vehicle.

Faced with rapidly deteriorating and dangerous conditions, Buban, serving as a Firefighter/Driver at the time, recognized the immediate threat to life and acted without hesitation. Placing himself directly in harm’s way to save the trapped victim, he demonstrated remarkable courage, composure, and sound judgment when every moment mattered.

Through his decisive actions, training, and unwavering commitment to life safety, a human life was preserved under circumstances that could have ended in tragedy that night.

The Resolute Cross honors acts of gallantry that stand apart through exceptional courage and selfless service. Buban’s actions that night reflect the very best of the fire service and the values we strive to uphold at Everett Fire.

Please join us in congratulating Captain John Buban on this well-deserved honor. We are incredibly proud of his courage, professionalism, and unwavering dedication to the Everett Fire Department and the community we serve.

Sunday is the final day for the Bayside Cafe which recently relocated to West Marine View Drive from the old China Doll on Broadway.

It is with the deepest regret that on October 26th, The Bayside Cafe will close its doors. We tried borrowing more money, looking for investors or someone new to take the helm. We’d be thrilled if an animal rights organization would take over and make it a non-profit. So far, none of those options came to fruition. I know this may be a shock to hear, and we are so sorry to the communities who call us home. The vegan community, the live-music community, mutual aid groups, the LGBTQIA+ community, activists, and most of all those who have been with us since the beginning. Six years is a pretty good run for any restaurant. We only wished to be here and grow with you.

We have been through so many ups and downs together. Financially, we just haven’t been able to make this home viable. It was with great hope and determination that the new management team believed we could turn things around, but there have been many setbacks. Equipment failures. Building maintenance and compliance issues. Staff shortages. So many things outside of anyone’s control. But primarily it’s been due to slow sales.

And we get it. The current economy is tough. Folks are going out less, and spending less on meals. We saw a 30% decline in sales month over month from August. October hasn’t been better. Yes, we had a handful of very successful events, but most have been run at a loss. This week we’ll be using up remaining stock, and have ticketed events on Friday (Lucky Dime Devil Baby’s Graveyard Rodeo), Saturday (Freak for All) and Sunday (Rooster Haus Rescue Flocktoberfest). We will be here to celebrate and support the beautifully creative and inspiring experiences you have been able to create in our event hall. Please come down and say hello to us, order some food and grab a drink. Check on IG daily to ensure we are able to open, as some staff have decided to move on ahead of our final day - Sunday evening. We will miss the hell out of all of you.

Tonight the Everett, Washington City Council Passes B&O Tax Revision Providing Millions For Outdoor Event Center and lowering B&O Taxes for small businesses in the City.
At its October 14, 2026 meeting, the Everett City Council approved the Everett Forward Business Support and Reinvestment package, a major step toward modernizing the City’s business and occupation (B&O) tax structure, supporting local businesses and creating new opportunities to reinvest in Everett’s economy.

The package provides significant tax relief for small businesses, reduces the tax rate for retailers and generates approximately $3.5 million in new annual revenue to support economic development initiatives that will strengthen Everett’s commercial districts, improve services for businesses and help attract new investment.

“Everett Forward is about making our city an even better place to do business, invest and grow,” said Everett Mayor Cassie Franklin. “Thanks to Council’s support, we will be able to provide meaningful relief for our small businesses while creating a sustainable way to reinvest in our community. This package will help us build on our progress, support our local economy and create more opportunities for the future.”

Modernizing Everett’s B&O tax

The approved changes represent a significant update to Everett’s B&O tax structure, with a focus on supporting small businesses and improving the City’s competitiveness.

Key changes include:

Small business tax relief: Increasing the B&O tax exemption threshold from $20,000 to $250,000 in annual gross revenue, eliminating B&O taxes for approximately 6,500 businesses, or 70% of businesses operating in Everett.
Reduced retail tax rate: Lowering the B&O tax rate for retail businesses by $0.25 per $1,000 in gross revenue.
Eliminating license renewal fees: Removing business license renewal fees for businesses with less than $45,000 in annual gross revenue.
Updating other tax rates: Adjusting manufacturing, service and wholesale B&O tax rates to help support the new structure, align rates with peer cities and generate revenue for reinvestment.
