Last June, Heather and I met in DC for a quick session before the national NAWBO gala (she’s the advocacy chair at her chapter in TX). To say she is strong is an understatement, she has overcome challenges that would have broke most people.

In my bio I’ve linked the page where she shares her story herself. If you have a minute please sign the petition, she needs 1000 signatures to get the visibility she needs for the pardon she deserves.

And if you have any connections at the DOJ Pardon Attorney office please reach out to her directly! ❤️

Heather you’re a rockstar and I can’t wait to see you in person next week for part two!!

Happy birthday month to my first girl 🫶🏼 her existence was the impetus for buying my first entry-level DSLR, which probably set me off on the trajectory that took me where I am today.

She came into the world four weeks ahead of schedule, a couple days before Mother’s Day. That first year was filled with so much worry, wonder, and gratefulness.

I always wanted to have kids in my early twenties. There was a time I was really sad that I didn’t. Then I had her at 34, and something deep inside healed. Even if I could magically go back, I wouldn’t change a thing. 💛

Imagine if I used the same image for every one of these slides. A one hour session in DC last week resulted in all these shots and so much more. What kind of visual experience are you curating for your followers?

As someone who came into photography with a graphic design and marketing background, the way I plan and my eye for the shoot is different. I’m thinking of future usage, not just pretty pictures.

I’m looking for business owners and professionals who are ready to take their visual identity to the next level. Let’s create something incredible together.

Unanimously selected as the next president by the board, congratulations are in order for Angela Killoren! I had the pleasure of capturing Angela for this headshot back in February, and was able to hear more about her story and her passion at a CKA/NetKAL event last month.

Honestly before I met .mhk last summer (now their Director of Programming), I never really thought about my role as a Korean-American, other than as an identity I was born into, as something that kept me “other” and forever feeling outside-looking-in.

Grateful for these connections that have challenged me to think deeper, to consider how I can impact and lift up those around me, and to intentionally partner with organizations that align with my own mission. Fitting that this post falls during AANHPI Heritage month. đź’›

You win some you lose some, but you can’t win if you don’t play. I’m so curious if anyone else made big bets that turned out to be life-changing. What’s the best or worst investment you’ve made for your business?

Casi’s not just about selling homes, she has fully leaned into the entrepreneurship and has found it to be the best personal development path possible. (Agreed!!!)

Five years of outrageous growth and success in real estate. In that time she also completed a side quest journey to be in her best shape ever AND welcomed a newborn addition to her four older children. She has started a second account, , to share more about her life behind the scenes and how’s she’s intentionally navigating motherhood and building a big business without compromising either.

Part of running a business means knowing when to say no and when to say yes. We all have limited time and energy. Casi was part of the 40 Over 40, and when I first brought up the idea of the Cotelier membership she was an immediate yes, all in. I’m so proud to support what she’s building, and look forward to planning her next branding mini!

Welcome to my origin story aka how the heck did I go from depresso on the couch to espresso (martini) at fancy galas?!

Era 1: senior graphic designer and media manager at a boutique DMV real estate brokerage (love that the stickers I made are still online!) They let me work from home since the first baby, so honestly I was comfortable and could’ve stayed there forever.

Era 2: third baby turned out to have severe eczema and a bajillion allergies, so after juggling/struggling for a year I gave my notice to give SAHM life a try. Spoiler, as much as I love them it’s incredibly draining to wrangle three kids under 4, and I had to find a flexible side hustle to send them to daycare.

Era 3: bought the camera I saw most of the pros using, even though I had never used manual settings before. I’ve been artsy all my life and assumed I could figure it out. Spoiler: I did. Tried all the different niches that first year, but fell in love with branding two months in.

Era 4: building my branding portfolio, working mostly on-location, but wishing I had my own space so I wouldn’t have to lug all my equipment back and forth and my gear wouldn’t have to take up so much room in our townhome.

Era 5: started looking for a commercial lease almost exactly a year after buying the camera. Got the keys April 1, 2025 (happens to be the bday of my entrepreneur dad) and took three months to renovate.

Era 6: leveled up my skills, my knowledge, and everything possible to take amazing portraits that truly show who my clients are.

Era 7 and beyond: speaking on podcasts, appearing on TV, organizing workshops and lunch and learns, getting my own photos done by phenomenal photographers, hosting my own gala for my clients and their portraits, networking my introverted butt off, making the cringey reels to share my message, signing up for coaching, mentoring, and all the things to level up my work and my systems.

If you’re a business owner with huge goals and even bigger dreams, pull up a chair, you’re in good company. I’ll handle your branding, let’s shoot for the moon together!

As branding photographers, we all want to help you to feel seen and confident on camera. We strive to make it easy to show up and get the content you need for your business. What isn’t talked about enough? The difference between all the branding photographers you can choose from!

You can get “branding photography” at almost any price point, from $300 to $20,000. What matters is the end result. Were you supported along the process? Did the consult allow you to feel ready for your shoot, despite the nerves? Did you feel comfortable to truly be yourself during the shoot? Were you guided into shots that look good on screens? Are the final images aligned with the level you serve at and able to create ROI?

That last question shouldn’t be underestimated. If you seek to work with high end clients, your photos need to look polished and leveled up. If you’re just starting out or more focused on the “everyday” client, first: that’s just as worthy a pursuit, and second, there’s a price point that fits you exactly where you are.

So when you’re seeking a branding photographer, review their portfolio (or IG grid) and look at the colors, the mood, the lighting, the movement, the personality that shines through, and the overall editing of their work. Work with those whose work feels like your brand.

I’ll be the first to tell you that I might not be the right photographer for you. My clients have already had tastes of success and are ambitious for more. They want to look elevated but still fully themselves. (I don’t believe in body reshaping! You don’t need the “perfect” body, full stop.)

But the great thing about Northern Virginia & DC is that so many of us know each other, and I’m happy to send you referrals! And if I seem like the one for your brand? I’m just a DM away.✨

Lovely headshots from the last personal branding workshop at The Cotelier, co-hosted by of and me! Muse: MUA:
