“I’ve been putting this off for years.”

Years.

I hear this often.

Not weeks. Not a busy quarter. Years of knowing they needed photos for their business and deciding not to do it. Years of using the same photographs from that one shoot in 2019. Years of hiding behind a logo or a Canva graphic or just… not showing up at all.

I used to think the core issue was about the camera. That they were nervous about bad angles or unflattering lighting or not being photogenic enough.

But that’s not what’s happening.

Being seen requires a decision. And that decision asks you to believe your work matters enough to put your face next to it. It asks you to stop waiting until you lose the weight, build the website, hit the revenue number, feel ready.

It asks you to show up as you are right now and say, “This is who’s behind this business, and she’s worth knowing.”

That’s terrifying for most people. Especially the ones who spent years putting everyone else first, the ones who deflect and polish someone else’s star instead of their own.

I know because I’m one of them. I started over in my 40s. I spent a long time hiding behind others. I wanted to start photography in my 20s but the thought of failing publicly made me sick. But the moment I decided to step forward and show my work and my heart, everything changed. Not because visibility is magic, but because the decision itself shifts something inside you. You stop performing and start revealing who you actually are.

That’s what I photograph. Not curated perfection. Not “the top ten poses for women in your niche.” The moment a woman stops flirting with the idea of being seen and commits.

If you’ve been putting it off for years, I want you to know: the thing you’re avoiding isn’t a photo shoot. It’s the declaration that you’re here, you’re building something real, and you’re done waiting for someone to validate you.

Have you ever wondered why celebrities do so many editorial shoots? It’s not to have pretty pictures.

From the luxury brand darling to the leather-faced badass, they do it to shape public perception. They’re using photos to communicate who they are.

I never thought about this before I became a photographer, but it’s one of the reasons editorial photography remains so powerful, even in the age of AI and social media.

When celebrities commission a studio shoot, they control:
• who they are
• what they stand for
• how they want people to feel about them
• why someone should (or shouldn’t) trust them

Humans read body language instinctively, and therein lies the path to emotional connection. When we’re moved by what’s being presented in the image, they start to feel more familiar. Like someone you know.

But this isn’t just for celebrities. Founders. Executives. Authors. Speakers. Lawyers. Doctors. Leaders. Anyone whose reputation matters needs intentional images that tell the world who they are before they say a word.

Happy birthday month to my first girl 🫶🏼 her existence was the impetus for buying my first entry-level DSLR, which probably set me off on the trajectory that took me where I am today.

She came into the world four weeks ahead of schedule, a couple days before Mother’s Day. That first year was filled with so much worry, wonder, and gratefulness.

I always wanted to have kids in my early twenties. There was a time I was really sad that I didn’t. Then I had her at 34, and something deep inside healed. Even if I could magically go back, I wouldn’t change a thing. 💛
