Firefighters from the Fairfield Fire Department, assisted by Libertyville Fire & Rescue, fought the blaze inside the house. One firefighter suffered heat exhaustion and was taken to Jefferson County Health Center for monitoring, and was released later that night. Fairfield Fire Chief Brett Ferrel said the fire appears to have been electrical, and began in the basement ceiling before going through the first and second floors into the attic.

Today’s Traction Thursday guest speaker is Aaron Hirshberg, Chief Operating Officer of Green Building Supply 🌿, will walk us through one of Fairfield's clearest examples of the "Fairfield to the World" model.

GBS opened in 1991 as America's first non-toxic home store, and 35 years later they're still doing something distinctive 👇

🛋️ A local showroom that serves the Fairfield community 💻 The vast majority of sales happening online, shipped nationwide 🔬 Personally field-tested products — flooring, paints, sealers, countertops, cleaners — safe for people with chemical sensitivities, allergies, and asthma ⭐ Over 11,000 five-star reviews from customers across the country.

Aaron will share how the GBS model actually works 🧩 — how a small-town showroom anchors a national e-commerce operation, and what it takes to build and sustain that kind of business from right here in Southeast Iowa. 🌽

Cablecast Maintenance

The Fairfield Media Center has been doing system maintenance on its cablecasting equipment, fixing stability issues and improving video quality. In doing so the station experienced a brief period of audio related issues on its cablecast feed to LISCO Cable Subscribers on the following dates: May 22nd, 23rd, 24th and 25th of 2026.

“We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused, as our goal has always been to give our community the best signal possible, hence the maintenance work and upgrades over the years. Luckily the livestream feed to Fairfield Media Center’s website remained unaffected.” Fairfield Media Center (FMC) Director Jason Strong.

FMC makes locally created video content available on-demand to the Fairfield community through two YouTube channels, the FMC website and various social media platforms which are available on mobile devices, computers and smart TV’s.
