Shooting them last night was a piece of cake. Or French fries from the Shake Shack. You choose. Either way, this wedding is coming up soon.

Kung fu level? Fabolous.

This all started many years ago in Fripp Island SC when I shot their wedding. Now, they have a full crew. And the chaos is something I absolutely love documenting.

When I shoot new families I tell them to let their kids be kids.

Molly & Tyler at the Art Hotel in St. Louis.
Taken on a 40yr old point & shoot film camera.
I see myself as an observer, not a director.

I like posting shots like these, when they’re just being themselves.
I’ve been shooting them since the oldest was a baby. It’s a real joy to watch them grow as a family.

This is what happiness looks like.

Three Points Ranch Wedding on Film blogged
When I pick up a film camera, it’s an escape for me. An escape from everything that is expected. Because I don’t take anything into consideration but the moment. That makes for a lot expensive snap shots. But I don’t care about that, opening up my film scans is similar to the feeling I got on Christmas morning as a kid.
So this is Josslyn & Harper’s story in film. Most from the wedding in Texas, a few from their engagement in St. Louis.
I want to celebrate all the imperfect moments.

What were these shot with? Oh jez, a combination of:
Pentax645n
Nikon l35af
Olympus mju
Kodak h35n
Minolta explorer Freedom
Olympus XA
Nikon FM2n

This weekend I traveled to their cabin down in wine country.

I started snapping pictures as I was getting out of the car. The first 30 minutes of the shoot was absolute chaos. Kids running around everywhere just being.... kids.

And it was perhaps just about my favorite 30 minutes as a photographer that I’ve ever had

Victoria & Chase in the Smokies

I am way behind on film developing. But I’ve been sending in a lot of rolls the past week or so, it's starting to come back. This one was shot using a Nikon l35af on Ultramax film.

Shooting film just makes me so happy. Film is spontaneous. When I take a film shot, especially on a point & shoot, I actually prefer it not to be perfect.

The imperfect is more natural.

So pumped for the next few months. I’ve got engagements & post wedding shoots coming up in Rocky Mountain National Park, Nashville, & the Smokies.

Jackson is getting ready to graduate high school, so tonight I shot his senior pictures. He’s graduating from the same school I went to, OTHS, so yahoo on that.

I think a lot of senior pictures tend to look the same. So after we shot a more ‘traditional’ look he changed into a sublime sweater, Vans, camo pants, stuff that he’s more likely to wear in real life.

That’s when we started to really have fun. I love these shots because I think these are capturing his personality.

Emily & Drews up on the blog
This wedding was so rad. The whole day was full of cool things. Drew was a musician, so he took to the stage at the reception to play with Emily at his side. Emily’s parents are deaf, so they planned a special slide show for the first dance with dad where everyone signed. Someone had bought a ton of Polaroid film for them so everyone was taking Polaroids.

I still get excited for each wedding I shoot, because the stories are all so unique.

Doing this never gets old.
